Australia’s Winston Surfshirt has given us a steady diet of quirky entrancing, dreamy soulful treats, so it’s quite the joyous affair that the alt R&B/soul outfit has released their debut album, Sponge Cake. Spongy indeed is album cut FreeForYou, an absorbing effusion of mellow lilting, smoky sauntering hip hop and R&B. The hazy languorous song was one of the last that Winston Surfshirt wrote for their album. It may seem hushed and understated, but it will leave you in the most transcendentally hypnagogic state, and it’s a sneaky sensual suitor, too.  Winston Surfshirt’s Sponge Cake is available from iTunes, here.

There’s no arguing the fact that R&B soul has made a grand comeback this past year. Everywhere we turn, we’re met by it in some shape, way, or form. Australia’s Winston Surfshirt gives us an easy breezy but jazzy soulful form of the genre on Be About You. This mellow hip hop and 70′s funk imbued gentle groover is like a dreamy swirling mixture of Tom Misch and the Bee Gees tossed with a generous portion of A Tribe Called Quest’s hip hop swagger. Winston Surfshirt has already grown a cult like following back home in Sydney. Be About You is their first official single via Sweat It Out. Snag the debut, here.

Waves of euphoria wash over us as the opening bars of Polographia’s Sly unfurl. The Sydney duo envelopes us in velveteen organic vibes and swoon worthy soulfulness while Winston Surfshirt croons magnetically on the serene swirling, prismatic drifting electronic song. Sly is lush and dreamy. It drips like melted butter and floats like soft puffs of fleecy textured cloud. Sly is a taste from the two piece’s forthcoming EP which will be out soon alongside remixes by FOrtunes and Godriguez (Sampa The Great). Sly is out via Sweat It Out! at various outlets, here.
