Cruel Youth, the spellbinding new project created by Teddy Sinclair aka Natalia Kills alongside her husband, artist & producer Willy Moon, just unleashed a stupendous debut EP entitled +30mg earlier this month. Though I must confess to having fallen for each and every one of the duo’s songs this year, I still count Diamond Days and Mr. Watson my absolute favorites. Today, we get to revisit Diamond Days thanks to the arrival of a film noir styled, violet hued music video. I fall in love with Diamond Days’ retro crackling 60′s soulfulness and its Lana Del Rey and Amy Winehouse like brandy wined vocals all over again as I’m drawn into the video’s captivating visuals. Cruel Youth’s Diamond Days is like a memoir dedicated to the glamorous golden days of vintage Hollywood. I find myself overwhelmed by nostalgia. Listen to Cruel Youth’s 30mg debut EP in full on Soundcloud and purchase from iTunes.

Hatefuck seems a very angry title for a song, and I wouldn’t have been surprised to encounter irate scowling, aggro raging music upon hitting the play button. But I went into it knowing the song comes from Cruel Youth, the soulful pop project formed by Natalia Kills or Teddy Sinclair and her husband, artist/producer Willy Moon. This Hatefuck, despite biting lyrics much anguished and distressed, is a bittersweet melter. Cruel Youth once again evokes Lana Del Rey and Amy Winehouse with their brandy wined, husky deep vocals and their retro crackling 60′s pop charm. At times, I nearly forget I’m not listening to Hatefuck off of an old record player. Hatefuck will be on Cruel Youth’s debut EP, +30mg, out September 16th. The single can be purchased now from iTunes.

OFFICIAL VID: Willy Moon – Get Up (What You Need)

August 2, 2013

Stylish New Zealand rocker Willy Moon has a new single off his debut album Here’s Willy Moon. Watch the brand new video for that track below. Get Up (What You Need) is one of his less swaggering tracks, but I really love the beautiful strings on this one. Add in the gospel moments, and we’ve got a classy sounding song. It still retains his vintage, rambunctious sound, but it’s far more soulful. This may be my favorite Willy Moon track.

Awesome, stylistic New Zealand rocker Willy Moon has a new video for us for his single My Girl. This guy’s charisma and cool factor are OFF the charts. And that’s an understatement. His old school vintage bluesy rock is fantastic and caught the attention of the great Jack White himself ages ago. My Girl will be on his debut album Here’s Willy Moon, out on April 2.

Buzzing New Zealand stylish musician and super cool cat Willy Moon debuted his new single My Girl today. It’s a rollicking rock and roll track and loads of fun. My Girl is a total bluesy throwback to the sixties, as much of Willy Moon’s work tends to be. The man’s has so much charisma live. He delivered an arresting performance in San Francisco recently.

Ladies and gents, if you haven’t heard of New Zealand retro pop singer songwriter Willy Moon yet, you will. I’ve been meaning to feature a post on him for awhile now, so here we go… This hot rising New Zealand star is sure to make some major headlines internationally in the near future. He has a very stylistic, unique, confident sound that blends dance punk, indie pop, blues, rock and roll… even a bit of doo wop. It’s some interesting stuff. So much so, that he caught the great Jack White’s attention who signed him to his ThirdMan Records label this year. Yeah Yeah is his latest single and video, available now on iTunes and featured in the Apple iPod television advertisement. Check this cool cat out! He’s like a mix of Bruno Mars and Jack White himself with some The Black Keys thrown in.

The kid has no debut album out yet, but his very first debut single in New Zealand back in 2010 was I Wanna Be Your Man. I’m not too sure how much of a household name he is over there, but we’re sure to hear more about this guy on this side of the pond shortly. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see some awesome hip hop collaborations down the road. I could think of a ton of great producers and rappers for him to work with. That rock and hip hop thing is starting to become more and more popular. Just look at the soundtrack for The Man with the Iron Fists. Wu-Tang Clan and The Black Keys? Hawwwwt.
