I’m still reeling from Wildcat! Wildcat!’s last big reveal, their shimmering smooth Straight To The Top. The Los Angeles outfit follow on that sensational treat with a tensely wound, weighty fusion of electro and alt named Relentless. The song even brings in some hip hop via guest vocals by a young rapper named Wynne. Relentless bursts slowly and hypnotically, a wall of swelling FMLYBND and Sir Sly like electronics and grittiness. It’s darkness is indeed much relentless, adamant, and determined.

Los Angeles alt poppers Wildcat! Wildcat! easily rise back to the top of the indie scene with their gorgeous new song, Straight To The Top. I’ve always been deeply fond of the band’s electronic laced, dreamy pop songs, and Straight To The Top is no exception. It simmers delicately in a sea of chillwavey shimmers while its smooth melodic pop tendencies are fully immersive. Straight To The Top is our first taste of new material from Wildcat! Wildcat! in some time. The band took 2015 off from touring to write and record new songs, and they plan to independently release individual tracks for free over the course of this year.

Los Angeles’ Wildcat! Wildcat! put out a superb sophomore album this past summer named No Moon At All, full of goodies like Hero and Holloway. They bring that hazy, dreamy indie pop sound to this fantastic treat of a cover, a luscious and muggy rendition of Paula Abdul classic Straight Up. Some of you may not have been alive when this song came out, but as a kid, I had Paula’s debut album Forever Your Girl on cassette tape (yes, that werid thing that existed before CDs). Thanks for covering this oldie and bringing back some memories, Wildcat! Wildcat!

Indie trio Wildcat! Wildcat! impressed me when I first heard them during an opening set for Alt-J a few years ago, but then they DEEPLY impressed me with their latest album, No Moon At All, out on Downtown Records. On that album are amazing, intoxicating indie pop songs, one of which is Hero, now an all time favorite Wildcat! Wildcat! now. The beautiful, sweeping song has been remixed by another IHM featured act, New York electropop duo ASTR, who seems to be keeping quite busy with all these remixes they’re giving us lately. ASTR’s remix keeps the original fairly intact, but gives it a more spacious and dreamy atmosphere, not at all the formulaic dance remix I’d expected.

I’ve been a fan of Los Angeles indie pop trio Wildcat! Wildcat! ever since I saw them open for a little band named Alt-J back in 2012, when they impressed me very much live. But, I must say, that their recent new tunes have blown their old music out of the water. It’s the best I’ve heard them yet, and it also turns out that they’ve been hard at work on a debut album all this time. Rejoice! Last month, we heard the driving single Hero. Now, they follow it up with new tune Holloway (Hey, Love), a soaring, high flying electronic pop laced track. Some of the magnificence and grandiosity of their new songs can likely be attributed to the fact that they’ve been working with Morgan Kibby of M83 and White Sea on the new tunes and album. No Moon At All releases on August 5 via Downtown Records. Guess who’s getting it? Revisit Hero, below.

How fitting it is that Los Angeles’ Wildcat! Wildcat! releases a new single the same day that the UK’s Alt-J does. I wasn’t that knowledgable about the trio until I happened to catch them open for Alt-J at Popscene a couple years ago (yes, I saw Alt-J in a tiny venue, and it was amazeballs). I was so taken by Wildcat! Wildcat!’s opening set that I grew annoyed at my friend when he kept talking to me. I couldn’t help but glare at him and hush him. It was the involuntary action of a music head. No offense meant! I swear! Wildcat! Wildcat!’s new song Hero is a driving, captivating listen off their forthcoming debut album, out August 5 on Downtown Records. It’s a powerful anthem, oozing with bittersweet distress. The soaring synths are the intoxicating work of one Morgan Kibby, whom you might know as White Sea or part of M83.

OFFICIAL VID: Wildcat! Wildcat! – Mr. Quiche

September 14, 2013

What the hey? I could have sworn I got around to sharing this last month, but maybe I was bogged down by work and mistakenly let it slip by. I mean, come on, I love cats, and I love quiche (yum), so how did this get by without taking a deserved spot on I Heart Moosiq? Sheesh! Los Angeles indie band Wildcat! Wildcat! released this vibrant video for their single Mr. Quiche, and it’s a wonderful, shimmery, synthpop tune. MS MR just lead me to revisit the tune with their Facebook share, since Wildcat! Wildcat! will be opening in support of the deservedly buzzing act on tour shortly. So, here ya go, better late than never! Mr. Quiche is off of Wildcat! Wildcat!’s debut self titled EP which just came out earlier this week!
