And now we dive into our first Christmas cover of this holiday set, and what an extraordinary one it is, too! Young Billie Marten has been impressing us with her beautiful voice and mature sound this past year, and she lends that magnificence to White Christmas, turning the classic into a gently flickering, tender melting folk rock meets bedroom pop drifter. It’s not only a haunting effect, but it also stirs the aching caverns of the heart. Dreaming of a white Christmas has never felt more spectral blue and wispy sentimental.

OFFICIAL VID: Vensaire – Apollonian

December 21, 2012

This is a somewhat psychy, somewhat tropical and exotic sounding track from New York five piece indie band Vensaire. Apollonian is definitely unique and fun to listen to. Just check out the interesting sounds and layers in this experimental baroque/chamber pop! Here’s some description of the band and what they had to say about the song:

The band explores thematic ideas through traditional world folk melodies and modern musical elements such as sampling and synthesizing. Relying heavily on the compositional tool of allusion and metaphor, Vensaire express the familiar and archetypal, as well as the strange and mysterious.

The band describes the song as:

“A psychedelic metaphor for Plato’s ‘Theory of Forms,’ tying in elements of the ‘Allegory of the Cave,’ the ‘Iliad,’ and what it looks like inside your head when you die.”

Other than this video, I haven’t been able to find too much from these guys, but I did find their bandcamp which had this VERY interesting folktronica, distorted cover of White Christmas! No better time to share!
