Delicate guitar picks and deeply contemplative, dewy nostalgic vocals tenderize the heart on When We Were Young, a debut single from James New, whom you might recognize from his previous projects like Mumm-Ra and Mirrors. He steps back into the spotlight solo on a tender ballad, whose gentle yet lush instrumentals and soft lilt are like a conjoinment of Patrick Watson’s pastoral charm, Sufjan Steven’s chamber pop, and SYML’s ambient atmosphere. James, who’s written pop songs for artists like Dua Lipa and Raye, pours his heart out on misty and vulnerable When We Were Young. He reminds us of a time when life seemed simpler, when hope filled every crevice of our hearts. And he does so ever so beautifully, too. When We Were Young can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

The world has been inundated in past months with endless remixes of Adele’s world dominating single, Hello, and some people have understandably grown tired of hearing renditions of the song everywhere and all the time. Los Angeles’ Danny Olson, however, is here with a remix of another one of Adele’s hits off record breaking album 25. The producer chooses to re-imagine When We Were Young, transforming it into an uplifting electronic opus full of epic energy and breathtaking grandeur. The slick progressive and crisp future trap remix carries a bright robustness that matches Adele’s divine vocal talent. It’s just the right uplifting track to carry me through the rest of a task filled day ahead. A free download of the remix is coming very shortly.

Here’s an uplifting, feel good one for the prog heads out there. Dillon Francis’ big ol’ Sultan, Nate Shepard, and Chain Gang Of 1974 collaboration When We Were Young gets yet another well crafted remix by rising Pittsburgh producer Steve James. When We Were Young was built for this kind of euphoria inducing, raise your arms in the air, light up the night remix. One of the first times I heard of Steve James was earlier this year when I encountered his remix of ZHU’s Faded. In light of the spectacular news that Faded has received a GRAMMY NOMINATION for BEST DANCE RECORD, let’s revisit Steve James’ dazzling, vivacious remix below. GO, ZHU!!!

Hey, kids, it’s Dillon Francis’ When We Were Young, which features Chain Gang Of 1974, remixed by Toronto trap act Grandtheft. Honestly, can you expect anything less than epic and massive on this combo? The original is already one of my favorite Dillon Francis tunes to come along in awhile, due to its melodious, infectious qualities, and the guest stint by Chain Gang, who I’m very fond of. Grandtheft takes a surprisingly restrained approach on the remix, leaving its mellifluous angles untouched, adding in balanced trap elements at the right moments. The end result is a spine tingling, chill inducing feel good track, one that makes my eyes sparkle with delight. This is magnificent.

So, the new Dillon Francis features San Jose, California born The Chain Gang Of 1974, aka Kamtin Mohager, on vocals, and I’m pretty happy about that. I just caught Kamtin and his band performing at Bottom Of The Hill a couple short weeks ago, because I had to catch them on tour for their album Daydream Forever, which came out earlier this year. In my opinion, it’s one of the most overlooked, underrated albums of this year so far. Every song on that song carried choruses as catchy as that of this tune, When We Were Young. It’s a terrific release, and some of you need to go back and take a listen. Anyway, The Chain Gang Of 1974 oozes his wonderfully delicious synthpop style into this new collaboration with super producer Dillon Francis on new infectious electro house banger When We Were Young. DF also teamed up with Sultan and Ned Shepard on the exhilarating feel good tune. It’s fun. It’s infectious. It’s powerful. And it’s The Chain Gang Of 1974! I’m not complaining.
