True Myth caught our attention when they mysteriously emerged with a fabulous remix of Odesza classic Say My Name earlier this year. The secretive producers continue their rising trajectory with two new official remixes for New Zealand’s BAYNK. They’ve turned BAYNK’s smash record with NIKA, What You Need, into a frisky flickering, dreamy effervescent future trap piece. The remix is a celestial frolic, and it comes accompanied with an edit of BAYNK’s Poolside, too. True Myth’s tinkling resplendent, airy skipping remixes are available from major outlets, here.

Whimsical debut for West Sussex’s indielectronica quartet Chenti. They released their self-titled EP less than a week ago and the track that sticks out to me is ‘What You Need’. It reminds of me of groups like Foals or Bombay Bicycle Club, which instantly teleports me to The Polo Fields and those good Coachella vibes.

There’s no slim pickings of late when it comes to tropical and Balearic flavored electronica, but New Zealand’s BAYNK is proving himself a stand out producer in the rising trend with his luxuriant soundscapes. Case in point, his new song, What You Need, featuring the candy coated voice of fellow New Zealander, NÏKA. What You Need’s bubbly skipping future beats and sleek opulent glow is perky enchanting and bright eyed wondrous. This warm incandescent gem is all that we need. What You Need is a free download, here.

Mysterious producer k?d continues to make massive waves in the scene by revealing What U Need, a remix of The Weeknd’s What You Need from the superstar’s 2011 album House Of Balloons. Considering how often we hear The Weeknd’s top hits all over the place nowadays, it’s a welcome treat to re-visit one of his “oldies but goodies” via k?d’s intensely scorching remix. Though k?d states that this one is “pretty old”, it’s infinitely fresh and magnetic, a darkly choppy, bristly knotted future bass opus.

UV Boi, an Australian producer who you might recognize from his collaboration with Ryan Hemsworth on Gods, dropped a sick and filthy remix of fellow Australian producer Hatch’s New Direction. The end result is an utterly sick trap tune, blending guttural, satisfying bass with the track’s melodious vocals. It’s one of my favorite new trap remixes of the day, and it also keyed me into Hatch, who blew me away with all the other tunes I streamed off his Soundcloud page, including soulful What You Need and Hold On Me, which samples classic, beloved Smokey Robinson. It comes as no surprise that I’m stunned and frozen in place addicted to shimmery music out of Australia yet again, with all their talented producer exports. Hatch is the latest one I’d recommend we keep an eye on. Of course, UV Boi’s on the rise, too. Hatch will release Direction and UV Boi’s remix on September 22 via Onelove Recordings.

Brooklyn electronic alt rock duo Of Clocks and Clouds is one of my finds today that I’m very happy about. I already listened to their single What You Need countless times since this morning. There’s a deliciously dreamy synthiness to the song as it builds up towards an explosive, guitar heavy, shoegazy finale. I also love the brooding, synth punk/post punk vibe in the song that reminds me at times of Depeche Mode. It’s a very satisfying listen and one I’m going to have on repeat a whole lot more.

Banks covers The Weeknd

November 29, 2013

I simply can NOT wait to see Los Angeles artist Banks in a couple weeks her sold out Popscene show in San Francisco! I can’t stress that enough. Loyal readers know that we’ve been following her fast rising career for quite some time now, all the while falling in love with each and every one of her gorgeous electronic R&B and pop tunes. Many of her songs have featured producers I dig. It’s no surprise that Banks released this sultry, smoky cover of The Weeknd’s What You Need for BBC Radio yesterday. She did tour with him a few months ago, after all. And with her vocal talent and music style, why not a The Weeknd cover? Her San Francisco show can’t come any sooner. I’m counting the days…

OFFICIAL VID: Willy Moon – Get Up (What You Need)

August 2, 2013

Stylish New Zealand rocker Willy Moon has a new single off his debut album Here’s Willy Moon. Watch the brand new video for that track below. Get Up (What You Need) is one of his less swaggering tracks, but I really love the beautiful strings on this one. Add in the gospel moments, and we’ve got a classy sounding song. It still retains his vintage, rambunctious sound, but it’s far more soulful. This may be my favorite Willy Moon track.
