We may have been too obsessed with Wet Leather’s last single IWMU, because we managed to miss out on their new EP and its latest offering I Was Wrong despite the fact that it’s been out and about for a week. But we gladly dive head first into the NYC indie band’s 80s inspired, jaunty chugging single now that it’s come to our attention. Hints of Chain Gang Of 1974′s new wave inspired alt pop and some vintage Tears For Fears adorn the song’s rambunctious rock licks and mellifluous power pop flourishes, alongside its LANY and Great Good Fine OK like satiny sheen . At the rate they’re going, Wet Leather is going to be one of the big acts to watch this year. Wet Leather’s EP, Present Lives, is out now. Grab the six track release on Bandcamp, here.

Wet leather normally doesn’t sound very appealing. Soggy, stinky, and sticky come to mind. But when it comes to NYC indie mainstays Wet Leather, there’s nothing more appealing than the band’s genre blurring tunes. While prior singles like Too Serious and Shame tend to remind me of bands like Hot Chip, Joywave, or Talking Heads, Wet Leather’s new single IWMU is more like a krautrock infused cross between The War On Drug’s twangy heartland rock and TEN FÉ’s vintage flavored jaunty rock. Its exhilarating kicks, punchy rhythm, and propulsive beats take off with animated energy. We dive in full force and bounce along in exhilaration, never once looking back. Wet Leather quips: “It’s hard to say whether this is a love song or just an evasive apology.“ Wet Leather’s new album Present Lives will be arriving tomorrow, February 2nd.

Wet leather is normally not such a nice sounding situation. I imagine something squishy and stinky. But this Wet Leather has proven themselves a sublime sonic treat in the past, and they continue doing so on Too Serious. The NYC based quartet return with more smoothly snapping, Talking Heads and Hot Chip evoking synthpop on the second single from their upcoming full length due out this winter. Wet Leather calls their music “anxiety pop”, yet I find Too Serious a glittering respite in the restlessness that has resulted after election night here in America. Wet Leather will be playing an album release show this Saturday at The Studio @ Webster Hall. Tickets are available, here.

NYC based synth and alt pop quartet Wet Leather are preparing to release their very first full length album this winter. Newly revealed single Secret Preference adds fuel to the fire of my excitement over that record. Incandescent album cut Secret Preference is a playful and plucky, smooth and snappy swathe of saccharine falsettos and limber guitar licks. Secret Preference is an 80′s dance party with Hot Chip, Talking Heads, and St. Lucia all in attendance. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more news of debut album The Feeling Is Mutual while spinning around to this tune, a not so secret preference.

Wet Leather is a NYC based synth and alt pop quartet who recently completed a full length album. The band also recently revealed a first snappy single named Shame, a grooving, jaunty song that comes off like a blend of Hot Chip, Joywave, and Phoenix. Wet Leather tags their own music as “anxiety pop”. Shame does have a fidgety, restless quality to it, but it’s rather vicariously hooking. Watch the lyric video for Shame below.
