I can’t imagine anyone not being overjoyed that Ernest Greene, better known as singer songwriter and producer Washed Out, is back. We haven’t had any of his bedroom pop or chillwave in an excruciating long four years, but he suddenly resurfaced late last month with retro grooving Get Lost, and now he’s followed it up with Hard To Say Goodbye, a wavy bossa nova and warped disco track that feels like we’re dancing in a dream. The intoxicating new music Washed Out is giving us will be part of a visual album named Mister Mellow, arriving June 30th via Stones Throw. Pre-order, here. You can stream Get Lost below.

OFFICIAL VID: Washed Out – Weightless

June 4, 2014

In other news this morning, chillwave artist Washed Out released this incredible video for Weightless, off his album Paracosm from last year. The song never sounded more gorgeous than it already is, paired with these vivid and sentimental visuals. All I can say is: sigh…………

OFFICIAL VID: Washed Out – All I Know

October 26, 2013

Chillwave artist Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, released an Urban Outfitters produced video for resplendent and lush Paracosm track All I Know. The video, which is virtually a well made short film, starts off like any coming of age tale, with heartbreak and young angst. I couldn’t help but think of Flight Facilities’ video for Clair De Lune while watching this, considering the similarities. Two friends in the suburbs, hipster volvo, baseball bat… all set to wistful, beautiful, but somehow tragic and nostalgic music. Which invariably leads to what I was already expecting… A wacky ending. Not as wacky as Clair De Lune, though.

OFFICIAL VID: Washed Out – Don’t Give Up

July 24, 2013

Chillwave artist Washed Out, aka Ernest Greene, dropped a new video for his single Don’t Give Up. You’ll feel like you just watched Planet Earth or the Discovery Channel once you’re through with this one, I guarantee it. It’s full of bright colors and amazing shots of flora and fauna. Don’t Give Up is off Washed Out’s coming new album Paracosm, out August 12 on good ol’ Sub Pop. Out of the cuts we’ve heard from the album so far, the songs have mostly seemed similar to Greene’s dreamy, mellow synth style on debut album Within and Without, save for one super psychedelic tune very different from his usual repertoire and more akin to Tame Impala or Youth Lagoon. Don’t Give Up is one of the former. It’s vibrant and warm, as is the new video filled with life.

LYRIC VID: Washed Out – Don’t Give Up

And now for a chillwave moment of the day! And what a good one it is too. Washed Out, aka Ernest Greene, is releasing a new album in August named Paracosm. It’s the followup to his amazing Within and Without. We heard a first preview off the new release several weeks ago, It All Feels Alright. It’s a fantastic song, but an obvious departure from what we were used to from Mr. Greene. In fact, that track seemed psychedelic and Youth Lagoon/Tame Impala-ish. It was great, but it’s super nice to return to Washed Out’s dreamy murky chillwave on today’s preview via this new lyric video for Don’t Give Up. Washed Out has washed me away again.

LYRIC VIDEO: Washed Out – It All Feels Right

June 11, 2013

Yes, that’s right! New music Tuesday brings us new music from Washed Out! With a lyric video as psychedelic as the song itself, It All Feels Alright extensively differs from some of the plush, dreamy chillwave off Within and Without. Seemingly taking a page from a lot of what’s going on lately in the scene, there’s an obvious retro feel to the song. It’s still dreamy and hazy, but there’s almost a Youth Lagoon-ish vibe in there (a la Wondrous Bughouse, in particular), or even a Tame Impala comparison to be made. The song will be on Ernest Greene’s sophomore full length. Paracosm comes out in August via Sub Pop, and I’ll be all over it.
