I rarely touch a video game console these days despite how often I found myself punching away at controls during my youth. As such, I’ve never really played EA Sports’ FIFA releases, though I’ve come to realize that its soundtracks are always in line with my own music tastes. FIFA 2018 World Cup’s trailer features a song that involves two artists we hold dear here at IHM, namely electro-soul trailblazer NoMBe and rising hip hop artist Thutmose, both of whom we were lucky to catch at SXSW earlier this year. The two combine talents to give us a frisky hip hop and funky soul jam named Run Wild, which comes off like a vivaciously cavorting combination of Pharrell, Outkast, and NVDES. You can watch the FIFA video game trailer, here. Run Wild is a whole lot of unbridled fun. It courses with infectious, untamed energy.

I’m loving what Demo Taped has done with a couple of Sylvan Esso’s red hot singles from the beloved North Carolina duo’s upcoming album What Now, easily one of my most highly anticipated records of the moment. The 19 year old producer from Atlanta has given both Radio and Kick Jump Twist extra texture with his whimsical makeovers. They take me right back to my old Nintendo gaming days. His Radio remix is a nimble bouncing, larkish flittering treat. Demo Taped whimsical future bass remix of Kick Jump Twist is no different. It skitters, shuffles, and skips with plenteous spaciousness for your best pop and lock moves. Find Demo Taped Kick Jump Twist remix below. You can also stream his Radio remix off of Soundcloud below, too. Sylvan Esso’s sophomore album What Now will be out on April 28th.

OFFICIAL VID: NO – There’s A Glow

March 31, 2014

Los Angeles indie rock band NO is certainly the grand champion today when it comes to coolness factor, thanks to their Grand Theft Auto inspired music video for single There’s A Glow. Who hasn’t played GTA at some point or another in their lives? Okay, maybe some people haven’t, but I sure have. Replete with the violence and brutality that the video game is known for, the video has already racked up many views in just one day. Smart move, NO! Ready for NO to really explode in the scene, kids? I knew when I first heard this band they were going to be huge some day. There’s A Glow is a brooding gem off NO’s recent debut album El Prado, which boasts endless great, moody tunes, some of which certainly remind me a lot of The National and Matt Berninger. The song is one of my faves off the album, along with Leave The Door Wide Open.

Travis Egedy, aka Pictureplane, the man who coined the term “witch house” in the first place, has a new one out titled Pure War. The delicious, synthy track is from the soundtrack for video game Injustice: Gods Among Us. You can trust in Pictureplane to create a wall of gothy dark electronic music. I’m delighted to hear new material from him. I’ll never forget meeting him at his show back in late 2011. He was awesome. He signed a poster for me, giving a shout out to us “tumblr freakz” since he knew about I Heart Moosiq!

OFFICIAL VID: The Upbeats – Diffused

January 8, 2013

And now, I bring you a hard hitting drum and bass moment. The video for New Zealand duo The Upbeats’ single Diffused is some geeky cool sci-fi fantasy stuff. It looks like there’s some type of anime or video game graphics influence. It’s a worthwhile, bass heavy clip to check out. Diffused will release on January 14 off Beatport.

OFFICIAL VID: Hot Chip – Don’t Deny Your Heart

November 27, 2012

This long weekend also brought us a brand new Hot Chip video and single off their current album In Our Heads. Check out the computer generated video for Don’t Deny Your Heart, which looks like a FIFA video game gone crazy interspersed with actual tour bus footage and band member likenesses. Groovy. So, someone tell me, why do we call football football in America, when soccer makes more sense as football? We’re so odd. 😉

Going with the growing tradition of amazing soundtracks for video games, MLB 2K12 has a brilliant list of artists for their soundtrack. Click above to listen to G-Side’s quality hip hop song Put Me In The Game. Stream other songs from the soundtrack below. It’s good to see Telekinesis, The Vaccines, Groulove, MMJ and Pretty Lights on there, though Pretty Lights seems to be a popular choice for sports video game soundtracks.
