If you haven’t listened to the new Beach House album yet, I highly suggest you get on it, quick! The Baltimore dream pop duo have put out an exceptional new full length, and my current favorite off the record is this gazey purling, dreamy purling song, Lemon Glow, though that could swiftly change within the next few days since there are so many amazing songs on 7. Hit up their webstore, here, for some cool merchandise and purchase links.

I know this new Beach House has been out for a moment, but the more I listen to Black Car, the more I find myself bewitched by its mind melding beauty. Black Car is a song deeply entrenched in hypnotic whirring rumination. It’s as ambient and atmospheric a cut as we’ve heard from Beach House in recent months. The Baltimore dream pop and indie rock darlings pull me into a deep reverie with their latest taste from their forthcoming album 7. The gazey thrumming, pensive brooding single adds to my great excitement for 7, which arrives this Friday, and which I’ve already pre-ordered forever ago. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, you can find links to do so, here.

Both myself and some of my shoegaze loving friends are head over heels for the latest from Beach House. The Baltimore duo are in the midst of rolling out some very fine songs and visuals from their forthcoming album, 7, and they’ve gone a dreamy whirring route on the third taste off the record. Dark Spring evokes both My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive with its labyrinthian humming dream pop and shoegaze amalgamation. It’s black and white music video is directed by Zia Anger, and it’s quite the artistic treat for the eyes, too. 7 arrives May 11th, when Beach House will be in the midst of their North American tour that kicks off later this month. Pre-order 7, here.

Last night, the music gods blessed us with another beautiful Beach House song, as well as details regarding the beloved dream pop and slowcore duo’s next album. There seems to be a theme going on with the Maryland pair’s visuals for the two songs we’ve heard off ‘7′ so far. The trippy videos and their black and white patterns even remind me of Beach House’s Zebra. When matched with their dreamy swirling, kaleidoscopic whirling music, I can’t help but find myself wishing for a stereoscopic 360 video from the duo (yes, I recently purchased a Google Daydream VR headset, it’s no Oculus Rift, but it’s still pretty cool). New song Dive is well worthy of diving head first into. It may start fleecy and soft, but robust guitars soon pull us deeper and deeper into a deep rabbit hole, leaving us spinning in exhilaration.

Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will release 7 (probably named so because it is their seventh album) on May 11th. We’ll definitely be looking out for that pre-order link!

We interrupt our regular scheduled lineup of songs to share brand new Beach House! That’s right, the prestigious Maryland dream pop duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally has suddenly surprised us tonight with Lemon Glow. The kaleidoscopic spiraling song is accompanied by official news that a new album will be arriving this spring. The pair also said, “Wishing everyone out their love tonight.” Love is in the air alright… our love for Beach House grows more profuse than ever as we dive head first into this ocean of dark, spacey synths and Victoria Legrand’s signature dreamy whorling vocals. Ah, such a splendid night it truly is. Our ears are perked and ready for more album news.

Perhaps you missed the big news. If so, let me fill you in. Beach House, that much revered and highly acclaimed dream pop band from Baltimore, has announced that they will be releasing a new compilation of songs on June 30th via Sub Pop / Bella Union. It’s entitled B-sides and Rarities, so you can probably guess for yourself what’s entailed on this release. Today, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally gifts us a treat off the release named Chariot. Take a graceful swan dive into this dreamy swirling, melancholic drifting beauty. If this indeed is a chariot ride, then it must be the famed Sun Chariot from Greek mythology. It lifts me right up to the brilliant sun in the way it must have lifted Helios skywards, towards the great heavens. I tragically plunge back to earth once the song fades away, like how Phaethon must have fallen.

Beach House – Saturn Song

March 6, 2014

Wow, those last few tunes were certainly dark and heavy. I’ve flooded you enough for one day, so let’s finish off the night with something completely surreal and magical. Consider this a good night song and the perfect tune to drift off to sleep to once over.  To sleep, perchance to dream, and dream you will, after hearing this. Amazing and revered Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House contributed Saturn Song to the Space Project, a compilation of music by an array of artists (ie. The Antlers, Mutual Benefit, Youth Lagoon) that features sound recorded in space by the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes. It’s certainly an odd and artistic idea, but so far, it seems to have worked out very well. Saturn Song truly seems to defy gravity. Victoria Legrand’s infinitely dreamy vocals and the pillowy production gives an indescribable feeling of weightlessness. I also find that the song has an edge to it, almost like that feeling you get when you step into the unknown. I can only imagine that it would be a good representation of the unfamiliar beauty and vastness of space itself, an unforgiving, breathtaking ocean but a billion times more colossal. Like I said, it’s magical.

OFFICIAL VID: Beach House – Wishes

March 7, 2013

Alright, let’s watch another red hot amazeballs video of the day! Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House’s album Bloom is as fantastic and brilliant as can be. Easily one of the top five records of last year, the album continues to offer up gorgeous singles and incredible videos. When I go back to these singles, I realize I miss listening to Bloom. It’s like returning home again after a long time away. The latest one to give me that feeling is Wishes. The accompanying video stars actor Ray Wise, who joins the esteemed ranks of actors in music videos lip syncing to songs (Helena Bonham Carter, Robert Downey Jr, etc etc).
