Latest Sigur Rós Valtari video

December 7, 2012

Yes, yes, another one, folks. The latest episode of the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment is a clip titled Leaning Toward Solace. It’s directed by Floria Sigismondi and utilizes a couple of tracks off the album Valtari, including Dauðalogn and Varúð. The kicker is that the video actually stars John Hawkes and Elle Fanning! It’s pretty much a short, cinematic film at 12 minutes long. Kick back and get your popcorn ready. Sigur Rós is actually screening all 16 of the videos in the film series all around the world this weekend in select theaters. I’ll likely catch the San Francisco showing on Sunday afternoon! Some of these really deserve to be seen on the big screen with grandiose speaker systems. I have no idea why I got it in my head previously that there’d only be 12 films in Sigur Rós’ Valtari Mystery Film Experiment, but here we are on the fresh new 15th film. It’s another one for Valtari track Varúð. This one is drected by Björn Flóki. It’s beautifully filmed and fantastic. The visuals are stunningly clear, the colors immensely bright. It’s some powerful stuff.

Yes, it’s another video for Sigur Rós’ Valtari track Varúð. And again, it’s from their Mystery Film Experiment series. It’s one of the quietly beautiful ones, less so quirky odd (other than the girl running down the street with shimmery hair part). The film director, Ryan McGinley, wrote: “This piece is my poem to New York City… I wanted to bring a childhood innocence to the streets, through a character whose own light and wonder effects the world around her. I’m always interested in an atmosphere where dreams and reality mingle on equal terms.” Lovely.

A little congratulating is in order for Iceland’s post-rock genius Sigur Rós. Their new album Valtari debuted on the Billboard 200 at #7! That is a heckuva feat for a post-rock band. It’s proof right there of how much their music transcends mainstream musical taste and touches the human soul and heart. How can it not, when their music is this incredible and fantastic? Jónsi’s voice never fails in taking me on incredible journeys. Below is the new video for Valtari track Varúð. Same as their heavenly music, the video is minimalist and gorgeous. It is directed by Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir and is another part of the “Mystery Film Experiment” series for Valtari. The series features 12 different directors.
