Genre meshing, boundary breaking Canadian musician Ursa Major is back with a soulful brooding, electro simmering tour de force song named Falling. The gifted artist fuses hip hop percussion with rock guitar and piano arrangements on this scintillating explosion of sound, giving us a unique amalgamation of retro and modern vibes not unlike a more pop and rock leaning Pretty Lights. Ursa Major explains that he wanted Falling to “have an island vibe, with rhythm and suspension that takes the listener on a journey towards an inner sublime, where all limitations are carried away in the summer breeze.” He’s certainly helped me find sonic nirvana.

It’s been but a few months since Canadian newcomer Ursa Major first surfaced with stunning debut, Dusk, and he’s now unleashed a debut EP too. The 19 year old singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Toronto has crafted a five track compendium of moving R&B named Lo-Fi Sky. The title track is a simmering ballad with much ornate detail, its somber disposition and spaciously textured atmosphere reflective of the true grandeur and power of seemingly simplistic details we overlook in every day life. The DIY artist recorded his EP wherever he could, whenever creativity struck. Ursa Major calls his art psychedelic R&B. His music encapsulates those long sleepless nights when you’re sullenly stuck in your own head. All you want to do is trek out into the dark where you can lose yourself gazing deeply into the starlit sky. Yet, a bright orange sun prepares to rise from afar, bringing with it the warmth of hope. It’s a dark affair set in the mysterious shadows of twilight on Dusk, the debut track from a Canadian newcomer named Ursa Major. The 19 year old singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer from Toronto dishes out some intense future R&B on the moodily booming and somberly slinking tune. It’s impossible not to be drawn into Ursa Major’s brooding lyrics and passionate vocals when backed by such a sparse yet textured background. Dusk is raw and powerful, a striking first song from the young talent. Download Dusk for free direct from Soundcloud.
