Not only did I fall hard for Orlando Higginbottom’s flamboyant headdresses and irresistible dance music back in 2010, but I also fell in love with his production moniker, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. I mean, how do you even come up with a name as epic as that, and one involving dinosaurs, which I happen to have been obsessed with as a young girl? Household Goods will always be one of my favorite dance tracks. The moment those familiar chords hit, I just break out in a smile. Oh where, oh where have you gone lately, T-E-E-D? I can only pray that Orlando is fast at work with some brilliant new tunes. In the meantime, Canadian producer UNBLOOM affords us a wonderful return to Household Goods by giving it a celestial sparkling remix. This future flickering take on classic T-E-E-D is sheer bliss and a generous end of year gift to help us transition into the new year. UNBLOOM promises big things to come in 2017. We look forward with great anticipation.

Canadian producer UNBLOOM’s music tends to contradict his chosen pseudonym. We know from past experience that UNBLOOM’s sleek intoxicating electronica more than blooms, it explodes. New song They carries us away on that bursting tidal wave, surrounding us with pounding drums, lush synthesizers, and hearty bass in a way akin to fellow producers like Mura Masa and POMO. Joining UNBLOOM on lyric writing and lending her elegantly sensuous vocals is up and coming singer Layla Mora. Nu-funk, future bass, and soulful R&B wed seamlessly on this crisp oscillating, luxuriantly springing beauty.

Canadian producer UNBLOOM ignites the air around us with Don’t You Know It, a chic and resplendent electronic gem with the hip swaying seduction of Toro Y Moi’s chillwave funk and the richly glazed soundscapes of Roosevelt, POMO, and Mura Masa. He tops it all off with sensational falsettos that reach as high as the stars. Don’t You Know It is a shiver inducing, sexy smoldering dance track and the UNBLOOM’s first new song since his first EP, Extended Play 1. Perhaps this means an Extended Play 2 is in the works. I sure hope so.

For another spectacular electronic song from a new musician on my radar, we turn to UNBLOOM, whose latest single Alone/Transparent is a spellbinding dance song that will have you grooving to the music while ruminating over your own emotional state of mind and heart. One part intoxicating electronica, one part sleek synthpop, Alone/Transparent dreamily explores the fear of being alone, exploding into an exuberance as it progresses that hints at successful avoidance of solidarity, at least, for the shimmering, pulsing, quivering moment. At times, Alone/Transparent evokes a far more buoyant and caffeinated Washed Out, mixed with some Neon Indian. Alone/Transparent is a heady official single taken from the London and Ontario based producer’s forthcoming body of work, “Extended Play 1″, to be digitally released in August.
