I’m counting down the hours till tomorrow night, when I get to see George Lewis Jr., better known as Twin Shadow, headline a sold out Popscene in San Francisco. The prolific Brooklyn based synthpop and new wave artist made his welcome return back to the scene with a HAIM collaboration named Little Women as well as a brilliant second offering named Saturdays last month. And he’s since announced a new album named Caer and shared a new single named When You’re Wrong. Wrong is something that I’d never associate with Twin Shadow. He presents us with an intoxicating bass line on his funky warbling, brassy flaring new jam, a dance-ready groover that will surely inspire the crowd to bust out their best moves tomorrow night at the Rickshaw Stop. New album Caer arrives April 27th. Pre-save the release, here. Stream When You’re Wrong via Soundcloud, here.

We’ve had an incredibly long Twin Shadow drought, though esteemed musician George Lewis Jr. has made surprise appearances on Rainsford’s Intentions as well as Zeds Dead’s Stardust in the past year. But it’s been a few years since Twin Shadow released any new material of his own, so when we came across two new tracks from the Brooklyn based synthpop and new wave artist, we were overjoyed. And he’s linked up with the HAIM sisters on one of the tracks, no less! That song is named Saturdays, a crisp pop rock thrummer whose punchiness and crunchy rhythm is perfect for the HAIM alliance. Alongside Saturdays comes Little Woman, a moodier experimental offering that feels very different from George Lewis Jr.’s usual repertoire. There’s a theatrical feel to the brilliant song, almost like a Phantom Of The Opera meets Perfume Genius aura with its crashing chords and softly brooding vocals. The welcome arrivals herald the coming of a new album from Twin Shadow named Caer, out April 27th. Stream/download Saturdays, here. Watch the video for Little Woman below.

Lately, I’ve caught myself wondering what Twin Shadow has been up to plenty of times, since we haven’t heard from George Lewis Jr. in a very long time. Though we’ve yet to encounter any news regarding fresh music from the esteemed synthpop and new wave artist, Twin Shadow has turned up on a new song from Los Angeles songwriter and breathy seductive vocalist Rainsford. The two’s 80′s inspired sounds wed to perfection on Intentions, a lush snappy, plush sensual pop ballad on which Twin Shadow provides fabulous guest vocals. Intentions is a glossy smoldering, slick grooving Dev Hynes meets Jessie Ware iridescent swooner. The single is available from iTunes, here.

A Zeds Dead track involving Los Angeles synthpop troubadour Twin Shadow is an unexpected surprise, but what isn’t a curiosity is the fact that George Lewis Jr’s dramatic vocals and this Canadian production duo’s legendary craftsmanship could result in something as dark ravishing and fiery smoldering as Stardust. After all, we’re used to epic intensity from Twin Shadow, and who else but Zeds Dead could take advantage of that to the fullest? Gritty whomping Stardust teems with burning chords and biting guitar. It’s also the opening track on Zeds Dead’s forthcoming album Northern Lights which features a sensational list of guest talent including Pusha T, Diplo, and Rivers Cuomo. Some absolutely spectacular collaborations are coming out of Red Bull’s exclusive 20 Before 16 series, in which twenty new tunes would be released by 2016. The latest song from the series is a bold and sweeping tune named Where Is Home that brings together Elliphant’s electropop sass with the epic synthpop flare of Twin Shadow. Needless to say, the two powerful artists unite for a bombastic, powerful pop effect. Where Is Home will also be on Elliphant’s just announced debut full length, Living Life Golden, due out March 25th. Having been a long time fan of the Danish pop artist, and having been blown away by her live set at Popscene earlier this year, I can’t be more excited.

New NYC quartet Transviolet gave us one of my favorite songs of the year with Girls Your Age, a track that’s deservedly received a ton of buzz since its release last month. The bittersweet and sensual minimalist pop song has been remixed by the great Twin Shadow, who gives it an epic makeover of grandeur. It’s Twin Shadow, after all, so we can’t expect anything short of magnificent. Heaving with brooding guitars and slinking with a slow funky groove, Twin Shadow’s Girls Your Age is a Kavinsky like adventure, a sensory loading simmering eruption of heat.

OFFICIAL VID: Twin Shadow – I’m Ready

Nobody does epic synthpop better than Twin Shadow, and his new video for I’m Ready is a quick reminder of that. I’m Ready is from George Lewis, Jr.’s recent album Eclipse, which is quite the treat to blare loudly while dashing along the highway in my car. Crisp synths and a lush, bursting chorus give I’m Ready the uplifting Twin Shadow qualities we’re so used to. I wish Twin Shadow, his band, and his crew a quick and complete recovery after their tour bus crash that delayed their tour recently.

Twin Shadow’s synthpop music tends to carry a retro style and endless uplifting epic vibes. His dramatic new single Turn Me Up gets flipped on its back with a thoroughly fresh approach by a team up of two amazing acts, UK producers Leo Kalyan and GRADES. The sweeping, glitchy, and heavily atmospheric remix is a wall of swelling euphoric sound.

I was very excited to hear this one when I caught wind of it a couple days ago, since I’ve always been very fond of Brooklyn synthpop artist Twin Shadow’s music. George Lewis, Jr. always infuses his songs with such fiery emotion and epic, dramatic intensity. Listen to his new release, Turn Me Up. While there’s no word of a new album on the horizon, Twin Shadow will be touring across the nation come March.
