For our final course of the evening, we leave room for the best kind of dessert, a well put together mashup by LA’s gifted production talent, Kap Slap. Heathen Thieves Love Lamborghini’s is three minutes fifty two seconds of creative brilliance. Kap Slap seamlessly blends some of the year’s biggest hits from artists like Twenty One Pilots, Martin Garrix, Rick Ross, Bebe Rexha, Grandtheft, Skrillex, Troyboi, Ookay, JayKode, and Party Thieves for a dirty trap-tacular end of year soiree. Bump this one loud as we count down the final days of 2016. The whomping mashup can be downloaded, here.

Twenty One Pilots’ contribution to the Suicide Squad soundtrack, Heathens, has become one of the biggest hits of the year. It’s also grown to be the most remixed Twenty One Pilots track so far. One such flip you really don’t want to miss is Australian electronic whiz Just A Gent’s grandly cinematic, glitchy mesmeric edit. Retro pulsing synths join future bass swells on this uniquely entrancing, darkly meditative remix. The track is a free download, here.

While I haven’t watched Suicide Squad yet and have no way of knowing whether all the negative reviews are accurate, I am very deeply in love with much of the film’s soundtrack. Twenty One Pilots’ contribution, Heathens, has been covered by Houston based producer Prismo, and his rendition is monumental. Prismo’s Heathens, which premiered on Earmilk, takes a rigorous marching chill trap and hypnotic future bass approach on the infectious hit. The result is near perfection, a sprightly slick, electro prickly masterpiece. Stream or download the track from various other outlets, here.

It’s interesting how so many great remixes of Twenty One Pilots, most of them much innovative, have been surfacing, considering how uniquely genre bending the duo’s red hot music tends to be. Though it’s been out for awhile now, Parisian talent Tomsize’s remix of Twenty One Pilots’ Stressed Out is a can’t miss, so here’s your chance to get swept off your feet by the synth heaving, summery trap remix if you haven’t been blasting it everyday for the past month already. Download the evenly paced mesmerizer for free, here.

Here’s a nice indie tune from Central Coast brothers Little Earthquake. ‘Honest’ was produced by Empire of the Sun’s Nick Littlemore. They recently were openers for Twenty One Pilots on their Australian tour. For a song that is about asking someone for their honesty, I appreciate how it doesn’t come off in a desperate or begging tone. It’s actually quite catchy and has me shimming in my chair.

Continuing on this spate of unexpected remixes comes an even bigger surprise, a fresh interpretation of twenty one pilots’ Car Radio by Brooklyn synthpop act, Great Good Fine OK. The combination of Great Good Fine OK’s summery electronica and twenty one pilot’s gritty raw vocals is uniquely mesmerizing. GGFO’s remix of Car Radio is, at times, very grandly Tycho with its ambient beauty, though much suffused with the band’s signature seaside breeziness and palm tree lushness. It nearly feels like Car Radio had morphed into a brand new synthpop and indie dance song on this imaginative edit, and it whisks me away to such a cosmically awe-inspiring world.

Yes, yes, I know that Ode To Sleep is quite the old treat from Ohio’s Twenty One Pilots, but the genre bending hip hop/alt rock/electronic and everything in between duo released a special video for the song today. And I must say, it’s quite the compelling watch, from a band that may have been the most intriguing live act I caught in 2014. They’re absolutely captivating, with their energy and a rambunctious sound that belies their two person roster. The new clip is a documentary slash music video. It basically tells, in a nutshell, their journey from playing tiny basement shows to huge venues. They crafted the live footage video out of several years of shows, beginning with the very first one Twenty One Pilots ever played. Pretty cool, if you ask me. The song Ode To Sleep, in itself, is a mesmerizing track, encapsulating the band’s unique and passionate blend of electronic, hip hop, and alt.

Ohio alt rock duo Twenty One Pilots had a helluva 2013. To close out the year, they released a video today for Truce, off of their album Vessel. They call it an “ode to 2013”, and the ballad is certainly a good one for some reflection on the past year. It’s a lovely, sigh inducing, soft tune from the extremely versatile act known for genre bending and for throwing incredibly good live shows.

OFFICIAL VID: twenty one pilots – House Of Gold

October 3, 2013

Fast rising Ohio alternative rock duo Twenty One Pilots will only rise faster after releasing their latest video for insanely infectious and charming single House Of Gold. The single is off their album Vessel which came out early this year on the Fueled By Ramen label. The duo are known for their versatility, proving once again that they can do just about any genre with this rare folk flavored track filled with delightful ukelele. Somehow, despite the fact that I keep hearing how great these guys are live, I’ve managed to miss them at every fest they played at that I attended. Whoops! Shame on me. I’ll catch them next time!
