It’s been three years since Joyland, TR/ST’s sophomore album. The full length dropped in spring, and I have distinct memories of listening to it while driving between campgrounds and hiking trails over the summer because I was that obsessed with the Canadian project’s bewitching dark wave and synthpop music. Today, TR/ST is back, with a glorious song named Bicep, at that. This noisy sawing, clamorous pulsing gothic and industrial pop piece sports razor sharp edges and ominously entrancing beats. Word is, TR/ST is readying a new album for early 2018. It seems like a long time to wait, but patient we must try to be. I’m sure it’s going to be well worth it. I also can’t wait for TR/ST to head out on tour in support of the album. TR/ST shows are ravey spectaculars, with ridiculous light set ups.

We hadn’t heard any new dark music from Toronto’s TR/ST in ages, and last week, he dropped delicious new spellbinding single Slug. But wait! That’s not it! Today, a remix of Swedish pop artist Zhala’s song Aerobic Lambada has been unleashed, and who else remixed it, but TR/ST! Zhala’s sound is rather exotic and other worldly, which works perfectly re-imagined by TR/ST into a sinister, techno flavored electronic piece.

Quite honestly, I was a little bit late to Toronto’s TRUST, or TR/ST, as he seems to go by now. Rather odd, considering how perfect TR/ST’s dark electronic music is for my Crystal Castles, Chromatics, and other dark electropop music loving ears. It wasn’t until a good while after 2014 album Joyland was released before I became obsessively spellbound by that album’s ominous, haunting, and intoxicating electronic music. Then, I saw TR/ST live, and it was SPECTACULAR. The lights, the rave like atmosphere, and the primal, guttural goodness of the whole experience, it was unforgettable. So, today, when I saw a new song put out by TR/ST, I rejoiced. I rejoiced for good reason, too, because Slug is a deliciously dark yet blissful song. Yes, one can be sinister yet euphoric and uplifting at the same time. TR/ST demonstrates that again and again, and ever more so on Slug. Creepy yet blooming with such beauty, Slug is another masterful offering from Robert Alfons, and hopefully a sign of much, much more to come.

More dark deliciousness on your plate with this new track by gothy Toronto electronic act TRUST, who recently downsized from a duo to a solo act (Robert Alfons). Alfons will release his first solo album Joyland on March 4 on Arts & Crafts. Rescue, Mister is our first taste of that album, and what a sleek yet gritty and guttural darkwave gem it is. There’s some very industrial influence on the track, but also a creepy dark pop and 80’s house flavor to the vocals and melody. It’s a compelling, commanding song.

Time for some dark pop! Here’s Trust’s latest video for single Heaven off debut album TRST. Toronto artist Robert Alfons does a great job on the alluring, synthy song. It’s an updated retro new wave sound that’s super atmospheric.

Sulk

It wasn’t too long ago that I first discovered Canadian synthpop duo TRUST and was blown away by their music. Today, they previewed the first single off their upcoming debut album TRST. As one I Heart Moosiq reader kindly pointed out in comments on my previous post, the drummer from Austra is half of the TRUST duo. I recall seeing something about TRUST coming in Spring to Popscene in San Francisco, and that’s definitely something to look forward to.

Wow, this is an extremely odd video with arabic writing in it and random imagery. The murky, new wave-y, dark song totally stands out and caught my attention. Apparently, Canadian duo Trust has opened for Austra on tour before. There’s something very captivating about this very heavy, sinister, somewhat industrial song. It’ll be on their full length debut album TRST, which comes out February 28 on label Arts & Crafts. I think I’m liking this… I think I am. The vocals actually remind me a little of Placebo/Brian Molko. The instrumentals remind me a bit of Crystal Castles mixed with 80’s new wave synthy pop.

UPDATE: Wow, I just checked out a few more songs by Trust and I’m really digging ‘em. Looking forward to their debut album! Here’s one of the more downtempo tracks I checked out.
