Like many of you, I was totally gutted when I found out about Dolores O’Riordan’s sudden passing. The Cranberries music, and that extraordinary voice, will live on forever in our hearts and memories. Many artists and bands we adore were much inspired and influenced by The Cranberries. As expected, many covers and tributes have begun to surface, and we’re truly digging this cover of Linger by soulful Londoner Moncrieff. It’s an understated and austere ode to the classic hit, a poignantly stripped down dirge dedicated to Dolores. Re-visit Moncrieff’s debut single Symptoms via our feature from a few months ago, here.

Canadian production whiz Ekali has partnered up with New Zealand’s QUIX to pay tribute to the great Porter Robinson. The union presents us with a spectacular remix of Porter’s Language, lifting us to great zeniths of ecstasy with their melodic thrusting, synth flickering rendition. Its smooth future bass and bright eyed chill trap complements Porter Robinson’s hallmark wondrous and widescreen production. The breathtaking, heartbursting edit is a free download, here.

I’m sure by now many of you electronic heads have heard the sad news about Big Makk’s passing in a tragic accident. The beloved producer and DJ from Orlando was on the rise on Mad Decent, having worked with both Bassnectar and Mr. Carmack in the past. And by all industry accounts, he was a good man, too. As people pour out their tributes in remembrance of Big Makk, some musical odes are surfacing as well. Big Makk’s close friend and California producer Ookay serves up a moving, heart felt trap number named Back Again. Though airy effervescent, Back Again’s sorrow is absolute. RIP, Big Makk.

Out of the tragic and surprising news that overtook the world late Sunday evening came endless covers and renditions of songs from David Bowie’s extraordinary catalog of music. We’ll be reeling from the striking loss for much time to come, and artists and bands from across all genres have been newly inspired by the turn of events. Even Norwegian producer Lido has crafted a tribute to the brilliant artist, dishing up a haunting future beats interpretation of Space Oddity. Its serrated beats, dreamy cascades, elaborate subtlety, and mournful vocals are a fine ode to that innovative creativity and artful sagacity we will eternally love about David Bowie.

Florida quintet You Blew It! is putting forth a Weezer tribute EP on July 15, titled You Blue, on Topshelf. On it, they tackle Weezer hit Surf Wax America, which some die hard Weezer heads might consider untouchable. They do a fantastic turn on the tune, however, bringing their angst ridden emo alt rock flavor to the cover in an irresistible fashion.

Alright, my music friends, there’s really a lot to get through (you can’t imagine how much music I tried to get through today to pick these choice cuts), so, I’ll try to keep things short and sweet, starting with this melodic play on John Mayer’s tribute version of Tom Petty’s always endearing Free Fallin, by Norwegian producers Matoma & Nelsaan. The light hearted remix joins the ranks of so many chill house gems we seem to be hearing daily. It must be due to the fact that summer is just around the corner of us. Yes, that must be it. If you’re Friday hasn’t been fantastic yet, this will remind you to relax and take a load off. It’s almost the weekend!

I’ve shared tunes off the Wes Anderson tribute album in the past already, but it’s really full of some fantastic covers by a handful of amazing artists and bands. Check out this cover of The Bobby Fuller Four’s Let Her Dance by Brooklyn indie pop act Freelance Whales. It’s a folksy pop sparkler.
