Vancouver production enigma 3XIT takes us on a profound journey this afternoon with Switch. We visit our innermost thoughts and contemplate the meaning of life, before we dance and celebrate living at all. The producer transports us to a basement rave before taking us to an enlightening dance ritual on a high peak. Techno, trance, ambient house, and progressive house intertwine on the track. 3XIT’s pristine brushstrokes utilize bass, beats, snares, and synths. With them he’s painted an inspirational and lifting masterpiece, one that enshrouds us in optimism and hope.

Sometimes, the quiet hours of the evening are best suited for deep contemplation and profound meditation. Our minds roam free and our imaginations run wild as Ryan Lee West, aka Rival Consoles, presents us with stunning visuals and an austerely moving ambient soundscape on Untravel. It could be the very beginning of time, or the end of all time, as we float through the images and notes that pulse and undulate through us. Time could very well not exist right now. The English producer and composer is preparing to release his new album Persona on April 13th, and he demonstrates how effective he is at echoing the hidden emotions of our hearts with his digital construction. Untravel’s other worldly video was directed by Misha Shyukin, who fashioned the clip to accentuate the feelings and themes of in-between states present throughout Rival Consoles’ forthcoming album. You can pre-order Persona from Erased Tapes, here.

Two of our faves from the budding new music scene in 2017 (who are poised to rule the music world this year) come together on this next official remix. SOFI TUKKER, the Grammy nominated alt dance/house pop duo who’s topping charts these days with their latest single Best Friend, has remixed pop wunderkind Billie Eilish’s COPYCAT, and the resulting edit is wicked good. Billie Eilish’s voice has never sounded more bewitching and teasing than on this snazzy simmering, deep pumping house remix, which pairs SOFI TUKKER’s usual deep dance flair with a sexy pulsing retro house vibe reminiscent of Grum. Grab this dark foxy remix from iTunes, here.

Just seeing the name ATB floods me with an immense wave of nostalgia. The German production veteran was a favorite during my raving days nearly two decades ago, when I was insanely addicted to epic trance. Los Angeles bass experts Pixel Terror pay tribute to the duo with a remix of ATB’s 2004 single Ecstasy, turning the blissed out vocal trance track into a melodic dubstep masterpiece loaded with cosmic synths and dizzying drops. You can download their remix for free, here.

A few weeks ago, Porter Robinson dropped his first EP as Virtual Self, and that five track release is a dream of a sonic excursion for this ex-raver and epic trance-head. It was almost like Porter read my mind and knew my heart. The tracks off of Virtual Self’s self-titled EP make for fine remixing fodder, and Los Angeles producer Hex Cougar, one of our favorite rising electronic artists this year, has given Ghost Voices a wicked makeover. He permeates the track with a grittier dubstep feel by adding guttural shuddering bass and a sense of dark urgency, but Virtual Self’s atmospheric trance still runs deep in the remix’s backbone. The masterful remix is a free download, here.

I’m not sure whether I should melt into the floor or get up and stretch my arms out towards the heavens in the first minute or so of this spectacular new remix from UK producer GAMMER. He’s given bass prodigy SLANDER an epic transformation that bursts forth with incredible feels and cosmic highs. His remix of Superhuman, featuring smooth swooning vocals by Eric Leva, is out of this world. Progressive house crescendos, savage drops, and dark hardcore beats make this a heart pumping roller coaster ride. For more of GAMMER’s wildly thrilling concoctions, visit his Soundcloud, here.

Porter Robinson has revealed a second epic anthem under his new alter-ego Virtual Self after dazzling us with his trance and techno leaning single Eon Break. Song number two is named Ghost Voices, and it’s a dynamic sprawling track which he describes as “neo-trance”. I, for one, am supremely glad Porter has taken on this new project to experiment with his new sound, which melds classic electronica with contemporary elements. If this is the impetus for a new rise in trance in the scene, I’m all for it, being the ex-trancehead I once was. There’s something about vocal trance/epic trance’s crisp synths and fluorescent melodies that I still find incredibly uplifting and euphoric. Ghost Voices definitely brings me back to my System F loving days (aka Ferry Corsten, for the younger ones who weren’t around yet when he was releasing songs like Out Of The Blue and such).

Who’s ready for some new Porter Robinson, except it’s not really Porter, but it is? The beloved producer recently unveiled a new alias, Virtual Self, with the release of an astonishing anthem named Eon Break. This intense stuttering, melodic rumbling extravaganza ventures close to happy hardcore territory, but mostly resides in the trance and techno side of things. It’s a profound and expansive, cosmic and magical adventure, with tinkling keys and luminous synths reminiscent of the late great Robert Miles’ pioneering epic trance classics. The ex-ravers within us welcome this new edition of Porter Robinson’s sensational creativity with wide open arms, and we hope Eon Break is a sign of more to come from Virtual Self.

By fortuitous chance, we encountered an enigmatic production project on Soundcloud the other day named DIVINE. As you’ve probably figured out from following IHM in the past, this music head is incredibly fond of the dark and haunting. DIVINE’s music is just that… it’s witchy and gothy, ominous yet euphoric. In fact, this mysterious project has gone and remixed Purity Ring’s rendition of HEALTH’s Life, and I couldn’t be happier with the ghostly droning, spectral humming results. DIVINE is a fine discovery just before Halloween hits us in just over a week from now. For another taste from the project, stream Haunt You below, and revel in its glitchy pulsing, chime tinkling umbral beauty.

I consider Digitalism’s earlier albums Idealism and I Love You Dude rather formative in the growth of my electronic music tastes in the years prior to the creation of this blog. So, I greet every new Digitalism song with much enthusiasm, and I’ve found I’m never disappointed despite setting the bar high. The German duo recently revealed news of a new EP named 5KY11GHT alongside a fresh US/UK tour announcement. Spektrum is our first taste of that EP. Its a hypnotic drilling, chunky jabbing, crisp bouncing soiree with plenty of the duo’s trademark electro sound. Caribou’s multi-spacial approach rears its head on the mesmeric thriller too, alongside scintillating breaks, a trance like sheen, and a robust Jersey club like recoil. Yes, in other words, Spektrum is really a “spectrum” of sound, a suspenseful yet stimulating sonic rainbow. Find out more about Digitalism’s forthcoming spring tour, here. Look out for more news regarding their EP soon. And you can snag Spektrum, here.
