May start posting these ongoing “MOOSIQ MOSAICs” direct on IHM for those who haven’t had time to catch up on daily features and want to stream some rad new tunes via a handy Soundcloud playlist. Been doing this for awhile now, but likely many are still not aware (particularly if you don’t follow IHM on Twitter or Facebook). This one’s sonic gold, so many sizzling hot jams featured earlier this week on June 15th! Only songs that are streaming in full on Soundcloud are included in these playlists, snippets and previews are excluded.

I can’t begin to describe how infatuated I am with Israeli experimental electronic musician Totemo’s latest single, Hits, which we visited together several weeks ago when it first appeared on the music horizon. The innovative artist even employs the use of an ancient Chinese instrument named the erhu on the exotic enchanting, haunting breathtaking song. Hits is full of wonder and fantasy. It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve listened to all year long. Today, Totemo revealed her music video for the song, and I found myself captivated and moved more than I ever expected to be by the documentary styled visualizer. The music video is an intimate “documentary” of sorts that pieces together footage of the musician as she undergoes chemotherapy. I’m relieved to find out that Totemo has succeeded in overcoming her unimaginable battle, and I’m amazed at her candor in revealing such a personal experience. It’s incredibly inspiring. Hits takes on even more meaning and depth, and I’m more in love with the song than ever.

Israeli experimental electronic musician Totemo has been enchanting us with her imaginative music for quite some time now, but she takes that bewitching artistry to a whole new level on new song Hits. Right from the get go, I felt my soul escaping my body and gravitating to Totemo as her use of classic Chinese strings promised an impending adventure of exotic splendor. I can’t say I’m perfectly versed in classic Chinese instruments despite my heritage, but it sounds like she uses the zither and erhu on Hits, and they tug at my heart gorgeously alongside an exquisitely produced soundscape, under the sweet gossamer guidance of Totemo’s graceful delicate voice. Hits is magnificent, and it whisks me away on a magic carpet ride into the mysterious depth of the night. Hits leaves me with a wondrous sparkle in my eye, its other worldly beauty a fantastical leave of absence from the banality of life.

I was super crazy excited and elated with this new find the other day, and rightfully so. Totemo is a fascinating new musician from Tel Aviv, Israel, who just signed to BLDG5 Records. On November 3, she’ll be dropping a debut EP, and we need to keep a close watch on that. Why? Well, listen to EP track Host, and get ready to be amazed. The haunting, dark song is full of subtle texture, and not so subtle texture, like the ominous rocking chair sound that creaks it’s way through the song. The trip hop elements in the song reminds me of Massive Attack, while the tweaky, glitchiness remind me of rising artist FKA Twigs. I also detect copious amounts of plenty of other respected acts, like Portishead and Goldfrapp, as well as a superb electronic production akin to that of SOHN’s. It’s one of the most intriguing and captivating tunes I’ve heard all week long, and a sign of such potent brilliance. Remember the name, because you’ll be seeing Totemo around a whole lot more.
