We’re a little late to this remix, but it’s a brilliantly crafted near metaphysical experience, and we’re utterly in love with the track. Too Much comes off of Australian band Tora’s debut album Take A Rest, which dropped last summer. It’s a soft rippling, mournful crackling electro-soul gem, and fellow Aussies Fortunes. have given the track a transcendental workover on their official edit. They give it a dusky garage vibe with their shuffling remix, a dreamy chill yet ever shifting masterpiece. It’s a bit like James Blake gone Four Tet or Burial, but with a more vibrant and soulful veneer. The remix is available from iTunes, here.

Breakout Australian band Tora continues to build momentum as the release of their debut album Take A Rest steadily approaches. Too Much is a divine preview from the full length and a fine addition to our growing list of beloved Tora tracks. Its crackling electro soul, permeated with soft rippling synths, mournful strings, and somber keys, drip with longing. Tora tops it all off with heartrending, deep yearning vocals which entrance with the gospel aesthetic of James Blake.

Frontman Jo Loewenthal says of the hymnal: “It’s a simple message that comes from a place of complete honesty. Sometimes admitting to yourself can be the hardest part, but I’m sure at times everyone has loved someone or something that they shouldn’t have. After writing this song, I found it a lot easier to accept those feelings and move forward.” The four piece will be embarking on an international tour later this year, with stops in Australia, Europe, and the UK.

I’m desperately hoping that Tora will find time to visit North America, too. Learn more about the tour, here. Debut album Take A Rest arrives on June 9th. Pre-order from iTunes, here.

San Diego surf punkers Wavves roar back on to the scene with raunchy, boisterous Too Much. The scuzzily rocking pop punk gem is infinitely catchy, a welcome return and magnificently frenzied taste off the quartet’s next full length album. Seems it’s going to be a busy rest of the year for Wavves, considering they’re also collaborating with Cloud Nothings on an album.

Brooklyn musician BAILE teams up with singer-songwriter/producer Camille Corazón on his latest release, the exquisite and spellbinding Too Much. Camille’s vocals are wispy and ethereal, floating beautifully and organically over the lush, ruminative production, one that comes off both illuminating and gloomy with its poignant atmosphere and waves of overwhelming synths. It’s a gorgeous song, again demonstrating BAILE’s skills in crafting fluid, engrossing music.

Sampha: Too Much – Kimberly Anne cover

March 22, 2014

Fresh new London artist Kimberly Anne sure is making some waves across the pond. Her song Hard As Hello has been the center of a lot of attention, and people are eagerly awaiting her same titled debut EP out March 24 on Polydor. Just a few days ago I shared a remix of that song by Bastille that is gloriously good. It includes some additional vocals by Bastille, which is always very welcome. Today, I stumbled upon this amazing new cover Kimberly recorded. It’s an acoustic rendition of Sampha’s beautiful Too Much, and she gives the tune extra doses of moving vulnerability and rawness. Kimberly Anne’s vocals really shine on this.

OFFICIAL VID: Sampha – Happens

November 13, 2013

Geez louise. It hasn’t even been a week yet since Sampha blew us away with his cover of Drake’s Too Much. Yet, here is again, sweeping us off our feet with his incredible vocals on new song Happens. Is there a more perfect voice? Matched with the purity of the piano driven music, the song can only be described as heavenly. The simple video is more than fitting for the arresting song, which literally makes me melt into my seat. Sigh. Happens accompanies the Too Much cover on a double A side 7" out on January 6 on Young Turks. If you missed the Too Much cover, I’ll do you a favor and tack it on below.

Sampha’s cover of Too Much

November 8, 2013

Bringing the bass down with this gorgeous cover of Drake’s Too Much by none other than the silken voiced Sampha. It’s a sexy, sentimental beauty that only Sampha can execute so well. A demo version of the track was previously heard on Drake’s Nothing Was The Same, but the British crooner is releasing the track on a double A side 7" single along with his song Happens. The soulful artist has really emerged under the shadow of his beloved collaborations with SBTRKT, having released his debut EP Dual earlier this year. How can anyone not melt away to this voice? It’s divine.
