My origami skills are very basic. I was never very good at folding delicate pieces of paper into beautiful works of art, but I have many a friend who have the nimble touch and graceful forte to quickly craft the most immaculate of cranes, among other creatures and objects. Australian singer songwriter and producer Woodes creates and folds music like origami, and with it, she bends and crimps our very hearts like origami, too. It’s only fitting that her long awaited new single is named Origami. She drew inspiration from her experiences in Japan for the euphorically aerated electropop song, a softly lithesome and effulgent beauty which she co-wrote with Thief and Jussi Illmari during a songwriting camp in Bali, with additional production by Elkkle. This is one of the most electronic tracks we’ve heard to date from Woodes. Its future bass warbles are playful and spry, youthful and fantastical, just like the creatures we like to whimsically summon with our little pieces of colorful paper. It’s a thoroughly enchanting track that arrives ahead of Woodes’ new 7 track EP, Golden Hour, and an Australian tour in support of the release. Find out more on her website, here. Origami can be found on iTunes, here.

California based trap producer and DJ Ookay is guilty of being a thief with his new song of the same name. You see, Ookay has robbed me of my heart with his slick saxophone, choppy bass, glossy vocals, and glistening synths. Thief is a mellifluous and opulent, an electronic pop leaning trap anthem that’s racking up hundreds of thousands of streams in the short few days since its reveal. Thief is a free download, here.

New Essex five piece Karma Wild emanate plenty of that wildness on the alt rock band’s boisterously roaring single Thief. Resolute guitar and slick vocals combine for a Royal Blood meets AFI like effect, a blood pumping, melodically rousing eruption of high energy rock and roll. It’s hard to believe the polished and aggressive rock song is the band’s first single, but it it’s a resonating statement of the band’s potency going forth. Purchase the song on iTunes.

I HEART MOOSIQ PREMIERE:

Just last week, I discovered and featured a project named ANIMAL FEELINGS, whose lustrously stirring song Fire, featuring silken crooning by Australia’s Thief,

reeled me in swiftly and intensely. Wondering in amazement at who might be behind Fire, I discovered that ANIMAL FEELINGS is a new project created by a talented artist from New York named Oli Chang, whom some might recognize from his role in dream pop duo High Highs. With ANIMAL FEELINGS, Oli makes a striking and spry return to dance music. If you missed my share of Fire before, do yourself a favor and watch the video for the song below.

Otherwise, I recommend you launch yourself into Oli’s latest. It’s an immense pleasure and honor to premiere ANIMAL FEELINGS’ new one, an enthralling self titled smorgasbord of electronic pop, nu-disco, soul, and electro house. It’s self evident from Animal Feelings that Oli Chang has a masterful command of multi-genre synthesis. Also found within the song’s animated layers of full bodied sound are the frothy suds of glitch pop, the nostalgic synths of 80′s new wave, and even a touch of ethereal future bass choppiness.  As described on ANIMAL FEELINGS’ SoundCloud: “This is music you want to move to: emotionally resonant interludes and aggressive bass drops are paired with twisted vocal and electronic accents that will invariably induce dance floor euphoria.” While Animal Feelings will indeed spark and ignite the dance beast within you, I also find that it oozes a wistful, yearning sentiment through its mellifluous pop vocals and an uptempo but ruminative atmosphere.

Well, hello there, ANIMAL FEELINGS, the latest musical experiment from New York based artist Oli Chang! You’ve hooked me right in with new single Fire and its choppy, lively soundscape. It’s an irresistibly piquant wall of sweet sound paired with the satin vocals of Australia’s Thief. Fire takes us on an exuberant journey full of drama and big sound. You’ll feel invigorated after this one, trust me. Honeyed, swelling melody makes this the emotionally stirring gem, too.

Thief’s latest jam, the sultry, funky electropop track Crazy, gets the remix treatment from rising Los Angeles electronic duo Lost Kings. They turn the Australian crooner’s song into an exhilarating, steely future house banger. Deep, jagged bass literally explode and pulse grandly on the irresistible remix. Thief’s sensual falsettos make the perfect accompaniment to the vibrant, buoyant re-imagining.

If you’ve been sorely missing Australian artist Thief’s sultry crooning and funky electronic pop music, today’s your day. PJ Wolf, the artist behind the act, is back with a shimmering, glazed new single named Crazy. The vibing Miike Snow meets Justin Timberlake dance track is a wonderfully lavish jam with plenty of swaggering soul. The new single is out not on Vitalic Noise, and more big things will follow this year.

I love Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me A River, but you have to admit, it was way overplayed back in the days of the post-Justin and Britney drama frenzy. IHM artist to watch Thief brings new life to the “oldie” with this amazing and thrilling cover of the tune. The Aussie artist’s falsetto vocals are impressively impeccable like Justin’s, but also more soulful. The magnificent, grand production on the dramatic cover is captivating with its percolating, choppy beats and stabbing synths. It’s a winner, if you ask me.

Australia’s Thief seems to be picking up on the buzz charts lately, and it’s well deserved. He’s one to watch closely as the year progresses. Late last year, he released an excellent EP titled Closer, and the title track is one percolating, incredible piece of catchy, soulful electronic pop. I featured the snappy tune the first chance I could. Australian producer Akouo has remixed the track, giving it even more refreshing oscillation and an absolutely hypnotizing, electrifying Flume like chill trap beat. Ah, yessssss.
