The Pixies sure are busy with new music lately, and I ain’t complaining, not one itty bitty bit. Though I’d caught them on tour recently (and was THAT a treat!), I tuned in to their live webcast from Coachella weekend one the other day and greatly enjoyed watching them rock out. Over the weekend, I also purchased the special Record Store Day vinyl version of their very first album in 23 years, Indie Cindy, which comes out April 28. The RSD version of the LP comes with a surprise seven inch bonus with this fantastic tune, Women Of War, a noisy, grungy ode to female soldiers. I love you, Pixies!

I’m forcing myself to be patient as I eagerly await catching the great, legendary Pixies live next month at the Fox Oakland. I really do wonder who the bassist will be by then, though. As you probably know by now, the Pixies recently released a second, surprise EP to follow up last year’s EP1. Dark, wicked EP2 track Magdalena has a bizarre, but intriguing, video out today.

OFFICIAL VID: Pixies – Another Toe In The Ocean

It’s still mind blowing that the Pixies are back with amazing music and a world tour. It’s hard to believe I’m going to see them at the Fox Oakland in a few months. It’s going to be STUPENDOUS. The veteran rockers’ four track EP-1 is a heckuva return. Another Toe In The Ocean is one of the explosive, excellent songs and second track off the EP, and they’ve released an animated clip for the song today. They’ve also announced a replacement bassist for the tour. Psst. She’s not named Kim. Paz Lenchantin has worked with A Perfect Circle, ZWAN, and the Entrance Band.

OFFICIAL VID: PIXIES – Bagboy

In other mega epic epic epic of epicness news today, the Pixies surprised us all with a new video and song, Kim Deal or no Kim Deal (umm, pun intended?). Let’s take a minute and let that sink in for a bit…. Did it sink in yet? NEW PIXIES!!!! The first new Pixies in NINE frickin’ years! The new tune is titled Bagboy. Still no word on a new Pixies album, but new music bodes well. Or does it? There are those that believe the Pixies should not continue without bassist Kim Deal. And no, it’s not Kim Deal on the track though it sounds like it, it’s their friend Jeremy Dubs. Black Francis had this to say about the song and its lyrics:

“The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body’. Twenty-five years later, some Starbucks in Harvard Square…I thought that was kind of interesting. The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued. So a lot of the musical idea had been kicking around for awhile. It’s pretty simple, kind of a blues-based, two-note kind of thing, really.”
