More often than not, bands seem to record songs during album sessions that never make it on to their respective releases. The Paper Kites is no exception. The Australian indie folk rockers have been kind enough to unveil two such tunes from last year’s sessions for twelvefour, just as they are about to embark on an extensive tour that stretches from New Zealand to North America. One of these two songs is a heart string tugger named Holes, a gentle strumming, steady throbbing lullaby brimming with tender emotion. They whisk me right off my feet with this beauty. The other “outttake” is a chunky chugging brooder named Breathing Fighting Love, which you can stream below. You can visit The Paper Kites’ website to learn more about their impending tour.

The Paper Kites’ folksy gem, Bloom, is undeniably a melting beauty. The Australian band’s endearing song goes chill melodic house on a sigh inducing remix by Germany’s Alex Brandt, giving the tune a peppy beat and plenty of summery radiance. Alex Brandt’s remix makes me want to throw on a straw hat, jump into a sarong, and go for a walk on the beach while holding hands with a special someone that I haven’t even met yet. Can I be close to you, stranger? Download this deep tropical Bloom for free, here.

It’s time for some chill melodic tropical vibes as we dive into a gorgeous remix of Australian band The Paper Kites’ Bloom by Atlanta production acts Drag & Drop PR and Osxilate. It’s a huge transition from the original, the perfect track to relax to after a hectic start to the week. The remix’s lulling strings and wistful hooks will have you transported to a world of saccharine emotion and swaying palm trees in no time. Free download of the feel good tune, here.

I seem to be on a brief Australian bender this late afternoon, considering my choice of shares at the moment. Another act from down under that won my heart over quite recently is a band named The Paper Kites. If you happened to miss my share of their new sultry, simmering single Electric Indigo, you’re in for a fortunate treat today. The band released a music video for the nostalgia dripping, 80′s evoking song, reminiscent of a mix of The 1975 with HAIM. Electric Indigo comes from The Paper Kites’ sophomore album, Twelvefour, out August 28th on Nettwerk. They wrote the album during the hours of midnight and four in the morning, and that seems reflected heavily in Electric Indigo’s heartbroken pensiveness. It makes me want to walk neon lit dark alleyways late at night while musing over past heartaches and current longings. The music video for Electric Indigo seems straight out of an 80′s romance flick.

The very first time I heard of Australian band The Paper Kites, it was via a  gorgeous remix of their song Featherstones by Lakechild. The five piece are gearing up to release a sophomore album titled Twelvefour come August 28th, via Nettwerk Records. The record was written between the hours of midnight and four in the morning, and it’s a concept album that explores the theory that an artist’s creative peak lays within these hours. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of this, as other bands and musicians have said the same to me. Perhaps due to this sleep derived state of mind, lead single Electric Indigo carries a distinct dreaminess and foggy warmth. It’s as if I were walking through a dream that takes me back to the 80′s, down a path of The 1975 evoking nostalgia. Electric Indigo is an intoxicating song with some HAIM meets The Chain Gang Of 1974 soft groove, as well as a thickly synthy atmosphere.

German deep house duo Lakechild craft a beautiful remix out of Australian folk act The Paper Kites’ Featherstone, and its such a sublime, soothing listen. I was just watching Milky Chance live last night (which was fantastic), and thinking about how fine of a line there is nowadays between folk music and electronic music, with all the tropical house and melodic house we get now from producers (and with how upbeat folk itself can be, like in Milky Chance’s case). Lakechild certainly makes this The Paper Kites song their own, flawlessly transitioning into those chill, melodic regions, and making the song seem like it was meant to be heard this way. The duo also remixed Angus & Julia Stone’s Grizzly Bear a couple months ago, and it’s another blissful, summery must listen. Check it out below.

Australian folk act The Paper Kites sure seem to have taken off lately, and its no wonder, after they released their debut album States late last summer. I’m always partial to their soothing, Simon & Garfunkel-esque folk music, and album track Tenenbaum is another delicate such number. It’s such a beautiful, gentle track filled with wistful nostalgia. Watch the new video below.
