Counting James Blake and Noah “40″ Shebib as major influences is newcomer CHCKLK, who released a striking debut single in the form of The One, for which he also unleashed a dusky music video. Described as a pleasingly weird and slightly nomadic artist, CHCKLK also seems to channel some The Neighbourhood and a dash of Chet Faker on The One, a mosaic concoction that brings together hip hop, soul, electronic, and pop. Produced by New York’s Rohme, The One is a gritty and meditative yet moving and swooning debut that examines life’s fickler nature. The Long Island based newcomer also created Kids of The Forest, a unique community of artists who aim to push boundaries and challenge societal conventions. The One is available to download off Soundcloud. CHCKLK promises more info about Kids Of The Forest soon.

NYC’s Wolf Colony just released his debut album Unmasked, which can be streamed in full, here. I highly recommend a listen if you, like me, are very fond of superb synthpop music. Despite the album’s title, Wolf Colony is an anonymous artist. Off the album comes The One, a glistening, slick, and hooking gem. The mysteriously incognito artist also dropped a music video for the addictive tune, which you can stream below. It’s a video much befitting of the song’s intimate, heartfelt quality.

iheartmoosiq:

UK based Iranian musician TĀLĀ teamed up with Tom Krell, or much revered electronic R&B artist How To Dress Well, on a new track named The One. Except, there isn’t just one version of the song, there’s two! It’s like Christmas morning! And I honestly couldn’t pick which of the two I preferred to share above, and which below, so the choice is really rather random. One is TĀLĀ’s version, one is Tom Krell’s, and both are absolutely magnificent. While How To Dress Well’s The One is a bolder, more fiery jam, TĀLĀ’s version is slightly more mystical and extra steamy. Both versions of their spectacular collaboration are full on seductive and overwhelmingly intoxicating. The two crafted the song together for Yours Truly’s Songs From Scratch singles series.

Whoops, blogger mistake. Forgot to embed the other version when I posted yesterday, so let me get this up correct. Here you go, the TĀLĀ version below, too!

I’ve been waiting to hear this one. I’m a huge fan of Kele Okereke, considering my love of Bloc Party. When Australian producer Sable announced a collaboration some time ago, I was immediately excited. Of course, Kele released a new solo single recently, too, and though it’s good, it wasn’t my absolute favorite Kele song to date. I’m digging this song, The One, with Sable, a lot more. The One is a sparkling, dazzling beauty, finely balancing Sable’s elegant electronic production and Kele’s signature vocals. Along with unveiling the song, they’ve also released a video for the tune! Watch below.

I’m a long time fan of dubstep, in all its forms that took shape over the years, from the early days in South London and beyond. I’m also a fan of the local music scene here in my beloved San Francisco Bay. We have so many amazing artists, bands, and producers residing right here at home, and one of such rising acts, which I previously featured, is T-Mass. In my last post about T-Mass, I mentioned that the producer considers Skrillex and Adventure Club as big influences. There’s no doubt that the fast rising Seven Lions (who opened for Skrillex at one of his San Francisco tour stops a few months ago) is an influence too. In fact, T-Mass tags his new track The One, feat. Mona Moua, with “Seven Lions”. It’s a wonderful and entrancing taste of T-Mass’s melodic dubstep.

Young French producer Stwo has been stunning us with his remixes of late, including his recent update on Three 6 Mafia’s Sipping on Some Syrup and his remix of BASECAMP’s Emmanual. Now, check out his remix of Detroit producer JMSN’s The One. He takes the chilly song and warms it up, adding more shimmery flourishes to the track. The atmospheric, blissful version glides and floats brilliantly on a bed of lush, hazy dreaminess.

Stripped down version of The One

Wow. Twin Shadow visited the KCRW studios and recorded a raw, stripped down, heartfelt, emotion rousing version of his song The One off album Confess. It’s breathtaking and immense. It’s soul searching and heart moving. George Lewis, Jr. decided to release the recording with a black and white video. And he’s struck gold with the combo. This is really something.
