Young Blood, along with Punching In A Dream, were some of the very first songs that made us fall head over heels for New Zealand’s The Naked and Famous. It’s hard to believe how long ago that was, and how much that time period feels like a whole lifetime ago. The Naked and Famous have been growing and changing over those years, too. They’ve just released their new acoustic album. Two of the founding members of the band, Aaron Short and Jesse Wood, have made the decision to leave. And The Naked and Famous have just embarked on a new tour for their new album, A Still Heart. Today, we get to watch a music video for their gorgeously stripped back, tenderly strumming rendition of Young Blood. We melt into its exquisite melancholy and Alisa’s delicate voice. Our hearts flutter in joy at the prospect of hearing the song live tomorrow night, when The Naked and Famous plays to a sold out crowd at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco, with IHM favorite Luna Shadows on keys. It’s going to be a magically heartrending night as we come full circle with The Naked and Famous. Young Blood (Stripped) is available, here. Find out about their new album A Still Heart and their forthcoming tour dates on their website, here.

New Zealand’s The Naked and Famous have released three albums since they dashed onto the scene to steal us away with their new wavey synthpop and atmospheric electro-rock what seems like forever ago, but their first album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ will always hold a special place in my heart. Early singles like Young Blood and Punching In A Dream are still personal favorites. Hearing them in any way, shape, or form takes me back in time to 2010, long before the inception of this blog. Lately, TNaF has been revealing stripped down renditions of some of their greatest hits, and I find myself nearly shedding a tear over this newly released version of Punching In A Dream. The gently wafting acoustic arrangement is breathtakingly beautiful. It brings a deep rooted sadness with it, and find myself missing the youthful, carefree candor of days long gone. Alisa Xayalith’s familiar voice, drawn hauntingly through a vocoder, leads us on a misty, wistful journey of poignant introspection. This is most certainly the most stunning track we’ve heard so far from The Naked and Famous’ forthcoming acoustic album  A Still Heart, arriving in March. You can listen to more of the album’s songs via Soundcloud, here.

Bay Area native Kamtin Mohager, the brainchild behind one of our favorite new wave inflected alt/synth pop projects The Chain Gang Of 1974, shared a new music video today for one of his songs… And not just any song, but his emotive and atmospheric duet Forget, which features Alisa Xayalith, the ever magnetic lead singer from another one of our favorite bands, The Naked And Famous. Punchy 80s percussion and glossy smooth vocals endow the heart swelling, cathartic climbing aria, whose video is equally affecting with its nuanced choreography, created by Lindsey Blafarb who has worked with the likes of Lorde, Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, and more. Forget is lifted from The Chain Gang of 1974′s latest full length, FELT, available here.

A new remix from Grammy nominated Portland producer RAC is always a welcome treat in my books, much less an edit of one of my favorite tracks off The Naked And Famous’ recent album, Simple Forms. I find it incredible that André Allen Anjos finds time to release rapturous remixes in the midst of unrolling new originals off his just announced new album EGO, yet here we are, swaying sublimely to this enthralling indie dance rendition of Higher. RAC’s effulgent waves of rolling synths push us higher and higher on this glorious Friday evening. You can stream/download the remix, here. New album EGO arrives on July 14th, pre-order, here.

Lately, for some reason, my new albums haven’t been arriving punctually on release date, though I suppose I shouldn’t complain, considering hyow far behind on LPs I am this month. Despite that fact, a part of me is still miffed that I don’t have The Naked And Famous’ Simple Forms sitting in my hands. If I did, there’s no doubt I would hop into it straight away. At least I get to listen to album cut Falling via the next episode in their lyric video visual series. Our favorite electronic rock purveyors from New Zealand stray towards the dark side on this one, giving us an icy pulsing synthcore and alt pop cut that channels some Chromatics alongside a little CHVRCHES. I can’t wait to blast this one at full volume off CD when I finally receive Simple Forms. Purchase your copy of the album, here. You can find details about TNAF’s forthcoming tour, here.

Soon enough, we’ll get to listen to a whole album of new The Naked And Famous songs, and that thought leaves me tingling with excitement. Simple Forms arrives on October 14th. As that date approaches, the New Zealand band continues to please our eager ears with songs via their lyric video visual series. The Runners, the latest episode in that series, is a generous helping of TNaF’s signature sound: cinematic sweeping, melodic billowing, synth erupting alt pop and electro rock, lead by Alisa’s ever endearing crystalline voice. I look forward to seeing TNaF on tour again when they play the Fox Theatre in Oakland on November 30th. Pre-order Simple Forms from iTunes and you get an instant download of The Runners. This massive The Naked And Famous fan is so excited for the New Zealand band’s third full length album that I can’t keep still. I’m already so insanely addicted to Simple Forms’ lead single, Higher, and here they come with a second song for me to obsess over too. Laid Low, which arrives by lyric video, is a synth pulsing eruption of vivid electronic pop. Though it begs some comparison to CHVRCHES with its bold soundscape, it’s unmistakably TNaF. Alisa Xayalith’s ever endearing singing and the song’s rich sawing guitar make Laid Low another epic grand, electro cascading TNaF pillar. Simple Forms will be out October 14th via their own label Somewhat Damaged. The Naked and Famous will be closing out their forthcoming fall tour at the cavernous Fox Oakland on November 30th. I can’t wait to see them play their new songs. Pre-order Simple Forms from iTunes.

I’ve been championing The Naked And Famous for years, gleefully and proudly watching as these Kiwis played larger and larger venues while stealing hearts aplenty with their ravishing music. The five piece played Live 105′s BFD in early June, where they previewed some new material. I’ve been waiting for them to drop Higher since. I’m quite sure I fell in love with them all over again that day when they debuted the synth florid, mellifluous sweeping gem. Each time I listen to Higher, it takes me to new heights of euphoria, its grandly soaring chorus, steadily pulsing beat, and Alisa Xayalith’s ever alluring voice sending shivers of bliss through the core of my being. Higher comes from TNAF’s just announced third full length, Simple Forms, which drops on October 14th via their label Somewhat Damaged. The band will also be kicking off a fall tour in the US this September, with a stop at the cavernous Fox Oakland in late November. Higher can be purchased now from iTunes.

Luna Shadows is racking them up, three out of three spectacular pop songs, and all within the course of a little over a month, too. The rising Los Angeles starlet engulfs us with fervent and intense passion on new song Cherry, a burning ode to blind desire and desperate love. Luna Shadows explains about the song:

“I wrote ‘Cherry’ to mirror the back-and-forth relationship between love & patience. It’s either absolutely sincere or entirely sarcastic, depending on the circumstances. At first listen, it’s a classic unrequited love song… but there’s a second interpretation in which the lyrics are a dismissive response to being asked to wait around without hope for indefinite periods for the other to be “ready.” Both versions circle back to an underlying obsession with absolute perfection: the tendency to turn inwards in idle moments, and the exhaustion & hysteria that accompany attempts to revise oneself aimlessly and endlessly. ”

One thing’s for sure, there’s no dismissing the powerful allure and stunning vocal talent of Luna Shadows, who co-wrote her latest ballad alongside The Naked And Famous’ Thom Powers and The Chaingang of 1974′s Kamtin Mohager. Sultry, breathy vocals soar brilliantly and tumultuously over the tart nectar of this ripened Cherry. Purchase the single from iTunes, here.

Distorted beauty and aeronautic song comes from Space Above on their new single ‘Fall Through’. It slows down time to expand your mind, as if falling into a black hole of magnificence. This experimental space tech trio was founded by Aaron Scott (The Naked and Famous) and Sam McCarthy (Strange Babes) and includes Maddie North (So Below). Take a listen and allow yourself to ‘Fall Through’ the Space Above.
