I suppose it makes perfect sense that we can’t help but be enamored by Ellevator and the experimental pop band’s new single Hounds. The Canadian project was formerly known as The Medicine Hat, who we’ve been much enthralled with in the past, too. On their latest track out on Arts & Crafts, Ellevator gives us ethereal indie rock and haunting pop vocals that evoke Metric and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Frontwoman Nabi Sue Bersche’s svelte voice also brings to mind one of our old favorites, Vaults, an oft IHM featured British band who sadly no longer exist. Though nimble and light, mellifluous Hounds also exudes much raw power in its cinematic timbre and relentlessly marching percussion. Ellevator’s debut EP is set to be released this spring. Stream/purchase their music, here.

Five piece Hamilton, Ontario band The Medicine Hat springs powerfully onto my radar with their latest song St. Cecilia. Lead singer Nabi Sue Bersche’s ravishing vocals shine brilliantly from within St. Cecilia’s lavish sea of tempestuous guitar and pensive synths, her voice a blistering inferno both emotive raw and breathtaking pure. Electronic pop and alt rock make seamless partners on The Medicine Hat’s single, melding together like early Metric on some The Joy Formidable with a sprinkling of new indie buzz band DYAN. Nabi Sue Bersche explains that the song is for all the men who ever harassed her. St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, is her constant companion, watching her back. Well, The Medicine Hat is obviously our new saints of music, and they’re more than welcome to keep us company through some dark times. Watch their official video for St. Cecilia below.

The Medicine Hat is a five piece band from Ontario, Canada whose entrancing alternative rock is exactly the melodic sweeping therapy my heart has been yearning for. They arrive with a hypnotic fusion of pop and electrified rock on New Survival. Lead singer Nabi Sue Bersche reminds me both of Paramore’s Hayley Williams and of The Joy Formidable’s Ritzy with her flawless pure yet raw emotive voice. New Survival is the first taste from The Medicine Hat’s new album, due out this Fall.  Nabi Sue Bersche explains that New Survival is a mantra, a hymn that she’s singing to keep her fears at bay. The song can be downloaded over at Soundcloud.
