New The Killers song Some Kind Of Love is said to be inspired by Brian Eno, who’s even credited as a songwriter on the track. Some Kind Of Love draws heavily from Brian Eno’s 1983 song An Ending (Ascent). It’s a serenely meandering, ambient roaming beauty, topped off with Brandon Flowers’ signature vocals and the Vegas heartthrobs’ trademark heartland twang. Some Kind Of Love drips with optimism and hope. It’s the heartening and inspiring anthem we all need. New The Killers album Wonderful Wonderful arrives September 22nd on Island Records, and I’m pretty sure a lot of people are wild with excitement for the release. If you haven’t pre-ordered the album yet, you can do so, here.

We received thrilling news from The Killers last month when the legendary Vegas heartthrobs unveiled new song The Man and announced a fifth studio album named Wonderful Wonderful. The fellows have since announced their Wonderful Wonderful World Tour and revealed details for the new album, too. Wonderful Wonderful will be out on September 22nd on Island Records, and you can already pre-order the album via digital service providers, here. With the purchase comes an instant download of today’s new single, Run For Cover. If you’ve been a long time fan of the band, then you’re going to love how this one conjures early The Killers, from the Hot Fuss and Sam’s Town eras. Its high energy, beatific combination of post-punk, heartland rock, and new wave is exactly the sort of epic, widescreen The Killers I’ve been missing for a very long time. The stadium ready anthem can also be streamed via YouTube below.

It’s been an incredible week for music, and we’re only at Wednesday, too. Countless artists and bands have unveiled extensive fall tour plans, and many have also regaled us with new album announcements. The Killers’ fifth album, Wonderful Wonderful, is one such treat, and it’ll be arriving later this year. It feels like much of the world has been waiting for new music from the beloved Vegas veterans. Waking up to a new single was cause for much excitement. The Brandon Flowers lead troupe are back with a funktastic jam named The Man that strays far from their old heartland rock sound. In fact, glamorous The Man’s confident swagger heavily reminds me of Arcade Fire crossed with Saint Motel. It’s a proper tune for strutting down the Vegas strip, or even dancing on the street in your best glitter dusted disco garb.

The Killers’ Mr. Brightside is easily one of the greatest, most memorable anthems of the 2000′s. Perhaps it’s how catchy it is, or perhaps it’s the universal anguish captured so thoroughly within the song, a timeless ode to jealousy and heartbreak. Though we’ve all heard it a million times over, I’m betting you haven’t quite heard it this way yet. Los Angeles electronic duo Two Friends thrill our ears with a throwback remix of Mr. Brightside that turns it into a quivering future bass epic. Two Friends sweeps me right off my feet with this welcome Mr. Brightside revisit. Their remix is a free download, here.

Pedro The Lion’s David Bazan covered The Killers’ Read My Mind for a Polyvinyl singles series. Each month, an artist records a different song on a Tascam four track recorder and those who subscribe to the series receive the monthly release on vinyl. I must have somehow missed the memo, because this is the first I’ve heard of this project. But David Bazan’s rendition of Read My Mind, one of many The Killers songs I love, has me set on checking out what other treats have come out of the series previously. David Bazan takes a gruff and synthy approach, giving Read My Mind an oddly moving balance of upbeat vibrancy with forlorn gloom. Learn more about Polyvinyl’s 4 Track Singles Series, here.

Swedish duo Kastrup new single ‘Come and Get Me’ is a dreamy track about feeling stuck in life and knowing one person can be the greatest escape. It gives the feels of The Killers song and I’m already imagining the music video. Instead of the typical male savior coming to whisk a damsel away from an abysmal farm life, a man is taken on an adventure away from his repetitive tasks boring life.

OFFICIAL VID: The Killers – Christmas in L.A.

December 3, 2013

Can you believe it’s December already? Sheesh! A sure sign of the Holidays creeping right up on us soon is the annual tradition of a Christmas song by The Killers. Yep. Christmas song. Already. This year, they’ve released a track titled Christmas in L.A., a slow burner of a somber tune. The music video features actor Owen Wilson and the song features folk rock band Dawes. As always, all proceeds from the song will go to the AIDs charity (RED).

OFFICIAL VID: The Killers – Just Another Girl

November 26, 2013

I suppose the cool new The Killers video is a requisite share. Just Another Girl is one of two new tracks on their greatest hits compilation Direct Hits, out right now. It’s the perfect example of that heartache inducing heartland Vegas rock that we’ve come to love about this band. The new video for the song stars Glee’s Dianna Agron. It’s a very imaginative video that employs her in recreating scenes from various music videos throughout the band’s career. She takes the place of Brandon Flowers in recognizable setting after another. I agree that Brandon Flowers is one pretty man, but he sure got even prettier! It’s fun trying to name all the songs for which videos are referenced in the clip.
