Quirky, wonky pop enchants us on Hold It Down, a new single from East Coast singer songwriter and producer Mia Gladstone. She douses us with tart and saccharine, wavy and luscious pop on the charming tune, which she co-produced with The Kickdrums. A sliver of R&B sass and a copious infusion of brassy, jazzy spice permeates the plush and snappy confection. The warm floaty, whimsically glimmering treat can also be streamed via Spotify, here. Take in more of Mia Gladstone’s music on Soundcloud, here.

Well, apparently, I’ve been hiding underneath some annoyingly blinding rock, because I only learned today that Brooklyn producer The Kickdrums is working on a collaborative project with California rapper Duckwrth. This Duckwrth X The Kickdrums team is planning to drop their project NOWHERE on August 21st. Fresh from the project comes a gritty, passionate number named Psycho. Booming with raw spirit, hooking Psycho is but one several terrific tracks already revealed from this project. Listen to the rest on Soundcloud. Psycho is available on iTunes.

Brooklyn’s The Kickdrums, aka Alex Fitts, thoroughly impressed me when I first encountered the project’s music last year. Now, he’s returned after a long absence with genre bending new single Breathe Again, a muggy indie rock song that carries a Foster The People like rhythm and some Beck evoking vocals and melody, all on top of a drum and bass like roll. The Kickdrums is working on a new record.

OFFICIAL VID: The KickDrums – Atonement

October 16, 2013

Brooklyn based The KickDrums, lead by Alex Fitts, has released a music video for their single Atonement, which is off recent 3 track EP Still Logic, but also on their brand new debut album Thinking Out Loud. Previously, The KickDrums has produced music for other artists. After hearing the catchy, moody tracks on Still Logic and sharing the tunes over the summer, I knew right away this was a band to keep an eye on. The KickDrums have a knack for blending genres. In Atonement, you can detect an almost hip hop beat along with electronic pop and alt rock flavors. Head on over here to hear the full debut album.

New The Kickdrums EP Still Logic

July 31, 2013

The Kickdrums is Alex Fitts, a Brooklyn based musician who has also produced some work for other artists. He released a new three track EP today titled Still Logic. Check out the synthy, moody opening track Atonement below. You can grab the EP on iTunes or on Amazon. I’ll also share the other two catchy album tracks, Fake Guns and the lead single Thinking Out Loud below, but Atonement is most definitely my favorite of the three.

Yesterday we had a video collaboration between Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky that ultimately blew me away with how well it was done and with the goosebump inducing ending. Today, we get to listen to the song they worked on together, which was supposed to be on a previous A$AP Rocky mixtape, but may now be slated for a later album release instead. Ridin was produced by The Kickdrums.

UPDATE: Seems there’s some controversy surrounding this soundbyte. I already figured it was an unfinished leak or something from the way it cuts in and how it sounds, so I’m not surprised. A$AP just tweeted: “THAT RIDIN SONG WITH ME N LANA IZ NOT OFFICAL, ITS NOT MY REAL LYRICS , THAT WAZ A REFERENCE , THE KICK DRUMS CAN SUCK MY DICK!!!!”.  My guess is that it was the unfinished product, so now A$AP is pissed The Kickdrums let it leak. It’s probably an earlier rendition and he has a final cut with differing lyrics. I’ll be on that too once it finally gets released.

A$AP Rocky X Lana Del Rey

April 2, 2012

Brooklyn duo the Kickdrums plan to drop a new mixtape tomorrow titled Follow The Leader. The mixtape will feature a heckuva lotta good New Underground artists. Here’s a preview of one track on the mixtape, a collaboration between controversy queen Lana Del Rey and indie rapper A$AP Rocky. Lana and hip hop go hand in hand, so this sounds pretty dang good. Looking forward to the full length and many other hip hop collaborations to come.
