Like many of you, I was totally gutted when I found out about Dolores O’Riordan’s sudden passing. The Cranberries music, and that extraordinary voice, will live on forever in our hearts and memories. Many artists and bands we adore were much inspired and influenced by The Cranberries. As expected, many covers and tributes have begun to surface, and we’re truly digging this cover of Linger by soulful Londoner Moncrieff. It’s an understated and austere ode to the classic hit, a poignantly stripped down dirge dedicated to Dolores. Re-visit Moncrieff’s debut single Symptoms via our feature from a few months ago, here.

Like you, I’ve been mourning the sudden passing of The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan all week long. Songs like Linger, Dreams, Zombie, and so many more are timeless classics, and they’ve inspired so many other artists and bands we love today. Her voice was a blessing, one of the most extraordinary and unique rock voices to have graced our existence. Dolores O’Riordan was about to hit the studio with Los Angeles alt rockers Bad Wolves to re-record a new version of hit single Zombie, but we’ll never get to hear how that would’ve sounded. We do, however, get to listen to Bad Wolves’ cover of Zombie, which they’ve now released in her memory, with all proceeds going to O’Riordan’s three children.

“It was the greatest honor to know she liked our version and wanted to sing on it,” says Bad Wolves singer Tommy Vext. “We’re deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Dolores and by the fact that she’s leaving behind three children so we are donating the proceeds from the song to her kids.” Bad Wolves’ electrifying nu-metal styled rock cover emphasizes the original’s sheer power and ferocious strength. Stream/purchase and support the track, here. Bad Wolves will be releasing a debut album later this year.

I’m pretty sure I lost a part of myself in Austin, Texas newcomer Missio’s debut single I Run To You late last year. The song is laced with such exquisite emotion and brilliant, spacious production. Lose a part of yourself within that song below, too, but make sure you also check out Missio’s latest bewitching offering, a cover of The Cranberries’ Zombie. His ghostly rendition of the song is millions of light years away from the classic original. The slow crawling, forlorn track is skin tingling, shiver inducing haunting, on top of gut wrenching beautiful.

Alright, kids, this one’s a really, really tasty treat. It’s one of my favorites of the day. Are you ready for it? As a gift to fans after reaching 4 million Soundcloud followers, RAC (Andre Anjos) has offered up a cover of The Cranberries’ universally loved Dreams. And he’s enlisted Pink Feathers (Liz Anjos), who just released an EP produced by RAC, to guest on the song. It doesn’t get much more sweeter, more exquisite, more sparkling dazzling good as this. Their cover of Dreams is pure magic. The weightless synths, the airy atmosphere… it’s pure bliss. I’m floating in the clouds right about now… weeee….

Dang, this is some gorgeous, melt me into the ground, sweep me off my feet music. Slow Skies is a duo from Dublin, and if this is the kind of incandescent music they create, then call me a fan. The very first few bars of their song On The Shore evoked CocoRosie, Emily Wells, and other acts in my mind that have similar sounding freak folk-ish vocals. There’s this elegant quality to Karen Sheridan’s vocals that seems fragile and wondrous, kind of like coming upon some beautiful creature in the wild and having to stand still and hold your breath so as not to scare it away. The, once again, minimalist production by Conal Herron is just breathtaking and magical. On The Shore is on Slow Skies’ coming EP Close, out on May 4. It’s their second EP. Their dreamy debut was titled Silhouettes, which you can stream in full below. Tracks in order are titled Walk Me Home, Ice Cream, Across the Sea, and Oscar. I certainly hear a little bit of that The Cranberries type of Irish sound in some of Silhouettes too. I like.

So glad The Cranberries are back

Here they are on Fallon the other night performing Tomorrow, and the CLASSIC (very, very classic) Dreams, which was from 1993. Has it been THAT long? I bet some of you weren’t even alive then, huh? I know many of you are younglings. 😉 Well, these fellas are legendary, and Dreams is a legacy. Brings back so many memories to listen to The Cranberries perform it.

The Cranberries are back! Well, we knew that already. But they really, really are back! And a new video solidifies that. Tomorrow is a very pleasant, 90’s sounding new song from the veterans on their upcoming return album Roses, however I liked the other new song Show Me The Way they previewed in October faaar more. I’ll tack it on again here.

The Cranberries are back!

cranberries

It’s been a long time (circa a decade?), but they have a new album called Roses coming out next year! The Cranberries are back and they previewed the following brand new song Show Me The Way. And it sounds good. I’ve missed them and their Irish rock, how about you?
