Over the holidays, we found ourselves obsessively infatuated with Kasbo’s Snow In Gothenburg, the perfect winter retreat steeped in silky gliding, atmospheric billowing nostalgia. But 2018 gives us a new song from the Swedish producer to fall for. This time around, Kasbo has even partnered up with British faves TENDER. Their velveteen vocals divinely complement Kasbo’s dreamy lush, drafty smooth future bass on Aldrig Mer. The new single comes accompanied by welcome news of a debut album from Kasbo named Places We Don’t Know, out March 23rd on Foreign Family Collective / Counter Records. You can pre-order the album now, here. Kasbo embarks on his first headline tour of North America this April. Details can be found on his website, here

I’m immensely grateful I finally got the chance to catch UK duo TENDER live at Popscene last month. It felt like I’d been waiting forever to swoon to the pair’s alt R&B and indie electronica live, and it felt right that my first time seeing them would come just after the release of their ace debut album Modern Addiction on Partisan Records. This week, TENDER shares a music video for album track Vow, a pensive brooding, sleek curling, and deep longing haunter which the pair says is the first song they wrote when they started on their debut album journey. They video is murky and shadowy, just like how our minds can be, when we’re pre-occupied with thoughts of someone else. TENDER’s debut album is available, here.

Gutted, I was earlier this year when British band TENDER had to cancel their trip across the pond. I had looked forward to their San Francisco debut at Popscene with great excitement, particularly after endlessly expressing a deep adoration for the band on IHM for the past two years. But all is now perfect, since TENDER has re-scheduled their stateside tour, and I’ll get to see them on September 13th at Popscene, instead. The duo, who recently announced their long awaited debut album, also lift my spirits with a fantastic new single named Machine. The sleek pulsing tune comes accompanied by a murky captivating music video. Machine is just the sort of sultry burning, dapper strutting jam we’ve come to associate with TENDER. If anyone’s controlling anyone, it’s TENDER, who has full command of my heart with their incendiary electronica and alt pop.

Of the video, TENDER’s Dan Cobb, who directed the clip, explains that they wanted to put together an abstract video for the song crafted out of video clips and visuals rather than go an orthodox route. He continues, “I’d been watching some great documentaries by Adam Curtis a few weeks before and I’d cite ‘Hypernormalism’ as an influence on this. We felt that the lyrics covered quite a lot of different themes, but in the end, all eluded to the same feeling of people not having control of their habits and the way they live their lives, ultimately. The song is about consumerism, entertainment, advances in technology and blind addictions. It’s a look into a dark world that feels like a simulation, where our real job now as humans, is shopping.“ Debut album Modern Addiction arrives September 1st on Partisan Records. Pre-order, here.

I was still hurting from the fact that I wasn’t able to see TENDER in San Francisco when they had to cancel their cross Atlantic travels earlier this year, but all of that fades away in the face of the British project’s new single, Nadir. We can always count on the pair for some hot burning electropop embers and an abundance of groovy curling R&B funk, but new song Nadir brings something new to the table, too. It’s a bubbly teasing, chromatic flickering affair pleated with Caribou like production patterns. In fact, it specifically reminds me of certain tracks off of Caribou’s debut album Swim, still one of my all time favorite electronic records. TENDER explains that Nadir is about the “damage done to one’s psyche when staying in a relationship way past its healthy conclusion.” It’s the first single from the duo’s upcoming debut album, due out later this year through Culver Music / Partisan Records. Nadir is available for purchase from iTunes, here.

My soul was crushed when I found out TENDER had to cancel their trip to the US earlier this week. We’ve been following along with the creamy swooning, slick brooding UK project since debut single Legion, and I was super excited to catch TENDER make their San Francisco debut at Popscene. That pain is assuaged by a fresh new single named Erode. I suppose you could say my disappointment “erodes” to the pensive swelling, deep longing slow burner, which so effortlessly melds electronica and soul, as TENDER always does. TENDER has also announced that they’ll be releasing their debut album this summer on Partisan Records. Erode can also be streamed from Soundcloud below.

TENDER’s back in rapid fire heart tenderizing mode, dropping tracks off of forthcoming EP III due to arrive tomorrow, November 4th. The North London duo revealed a track named Oracle today. Though I’m no oracle myself, I’d predict from this sleek mesmeric gem that TENDER’s next EP is going to be just as passionately consuming as their prior two. Oracle is signature TENDER, a smooth rolling, sultry burning brew made up of R&B, funk, and indietronica. Oracle follows on lead single Design. You can stream the steamy swaggering, feverish strutting jam below. Pre-order EP III from iTunes, here.

Dan and James continues to woo us as TENDER with the North London duo’s dark burning tapestry of funk, R&B, and indietronica on torrid simmering Violence. The racy seething, slick swooning song and its effortless velvet cooing leaves us flushed and excited for their next EP, simply titled EP III. For a song named Violence, this is one smooth grooving, smoky caressing treat, not at all cacophonous or turbulent as one would expect. EP III is slated to arrive November 11th via Partisan Records / Knitting Factory Records. Pre-order on iTunes.
