Vacationer’s summery indie pop hit In The Grass certainly lit up my summer last year. That balmy treat gets a total work over this summer, via a remix by experimental artist and producer TAPES. TAPES takes In The Grass into spacious, minimalist regions with his shimmering, twinkling remix. A glitchy. chillwavey glossiness imbues the track, as a Slow Magic or Flume like undulating chill trap segment takes us to lofty heights of music inebriated pleasure.

For a massive dose of radiant indie dance rock music, check out Tapes, from a fantastic new UK based quartet named Native People. The anthemic song glows with beautiful melody and gleams with slick guitars. Tapes is the lead single from Native People’s upcoming debut EP of the same name, to be released on May 25th. The song’s dance punk funk evokes Foals, while its luminosity and warm hooks bring to mind Two Door Cinema Club with a touch of Friendly Fires.

Shoeboxx Recordings is about to drop their second compilation of terrific tunes, and Midwest producer Tapes contributed the gorgeous and ethereal Almost to the release. In line with what we’ve heard from Tapes in the past, Almost is a weightless and airy track, carrying soulful vocal samples and copious amounts of shimmering, rippling effects. It’s one of those late night dreamy treats, seductively plush and wistful.

With delicate, light touches, Tapes’ Find Y.O.U. bubbles and froths weightlessly from the get go, pairing breezy beats with breathy pitchy vocal samples (of Craig David’s Fill Me In, whatever happened to him lately?). It’s not until nearly halfway into the hypnotic song that a heavier beat balances in carefully. Find Y.O.U. is a gorgeously crafted track from the impressive new Midwest based producer, who seems to channel a blend of Gold Panda, Baths, and some of the chill trap producers we’ve been loving a lot lately, like Cashmere Cat, Flume, and Wave Racer. Find Y.O.U. was released on August 15 via XLR8R, and Tapes has an LP coming shortly.
