Halloween may have already passed us by, but my twisted heart eagerly welcomes the dark and macabre any day of the year. And that’s exactly what SoCal indie electro duo Smoke Season offers up on their fiery ferocious cover of Talking Heads’ classic Psycho Killer. This serpentine winding, restless bristling alt and electro rendition strikes like hot iron. The cinematic smoldering cover comes with an eerie but sexy visualizer, too. Turn up the volume, blast Psycho Killer loud, and let’s relive our ghoulish weekend.

Whoa, buddy! Talking Heads’ Once In A Lifetime is arguably one of the most legendary 80’s tunes of all time, and I sure as heck did not expect to be listening to an updated version of the brilliant track today! But that’s exactly what happened, more than once! Minneapolis producer Gigamesh created a remix of the classic. The new rendition stays true to original form, but far shinier. I’ll call it the “disco ball” version. Yep. If you’re not dancing right away, you will be by the four minute mark.

For Australia’s Triple J Radio, Flight Facilities put together this awesome mix. It’s the first of their decade mixes, this one covering 1972-1982. The next one, 1982-1992, will be available in early February. This is a pretty cool treat. It’s not often we get talented musicians remixing some seriously good old skool music like this. Oldies sure are goodies.

Florence and the Machine in animal suits

May 23, 2012

To announce their headlining gig at Bestival 2012 in September, Florence and the gang decided to dress up in animal suits and cover The Talking Heads’ Wild Wild Life. It’s cute. I would’ve thought Florence should be a much grander, majestic animal than a teddy bear! But I guess it beats out a pink bunny, a PENGUIN, and…. a mangy lion that looks like it’s either a drunk bum or the coward from the old Wizard of Oz classic film.
