Two long years have flown since we had the honor and pleasure of premiering luhx.’s synth-soul ballad Poison, but we still remember the way that silken gem caressed our hearts as if it were yesterday. The emerging band from Boston has since returned to stir the soul and tickle the heart with their alt pop on new single ‘go to hell.’. Despite its smooth, glossy sheen, ‘go to hell.’ is a robust and propulsive, sophisticated and agitated beauty riddled with restless beats and unruly synths. It carries a resolute undertone even as it seduces with its pellucid vocals and luxurious undulations. ‘go to hell’ is sensual and hypnotic, but it’s also a potent song of conviction. luhx. has given us an absolutely intoxicating and haunting dichotomy that reminds us we shouldn’t be apologetic for who we truly are.  luhx. says of the song: “We blended the lyrical vulnerability of Troye Sivan and paired it with the production grit of Jack Garratt to create ‘go to hell.’ This song is a rally cry to embrace what society has deemed a sin, recreating a hell that we will gladly walk into, our true selves celebrated together as a community. We’ve also developed an interactive website that allows users to submit the things they would go to hell for.” Visit that website, here.

Time Can Heal A Man”, but music heals the soul, as demonstrated by Martin Hedegaard, the 24 year old Danish multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer behind the project SAVEUS. The genre bending artist sweeps us off our feet with his buttery smooth voice and a gospel-infused hybrid of soulful pop & widescreen electronica on the stratospheric single. Though we’re already a few days deep into 2018, the year has never felt more welcoming and promising than now, with this massively moving song in tow. It’s obvious the already effusive buzz and praise SAVEUS has received this past year is only going to amplify as we continue to follow along with the hotly tipped artist into the forthcoming months. Stream SAVEUS’ music via Spotify, here.

Fine Line is new Norwegian indie soul duo Jimmy Smash’s second single, and it’s a fine tune indeed. The Oslo outfit serves up a melting pot of 80s pop and R&B influences on the creamy smooth, dreamy lustrous song. It’s a song whose satin sheen and luscious synths evoke a cross between HONNE and LANY. Fine Line is a mighty fine follow up to the pair’s bold debut single Macadamian, which peaked at #3 on Norway’s Spotify Viral Top 50 chart. You can stream Macadamian below and relish in its velveteen drapes and warm embrace. It’s no wonder Jimmy Smash has already been beooked for next year’s Trondheim Calling festival.

As fans of Glassio since the duo were named Astronaughty, the arrival of new music was cause for celebration. The New York project caresses us with dreamy opulent drapes of synthpop on Search & Destroy. Glassy shards shimmer in brilliant sunlight while an increasingly vibrant rhythm warms our own soul on this ravishing

electro-soul and gospel inflected cover of Iggy & The Stooges. Ironically, Glassio has planted plump seeds of hope and optimism with this visionary rendition of a Vietnam war song named Search & Destroy. Creamy sheer LANY, lush vibrant The xx, cosmic vast M83, and fleecy chillwave Postiljonen cross paths on the luminous cover.

[PREMIERE]: luhx. – poison

There’s a new synth-soul band from Boston, Massachusetts who’s about to leave you in shambles with their haunting new song, Poison. Inspired by the likes of Jack Garratt, Allen Stone, and Oh Wonder, luhx. delivers silken resplendence and fragile delicacy on the beautiful gem. Poison is far to marvelously moving a piece to be venomous, except perhaps to the heart itself, its pointed darts dripping in tender, lovelorn anguish. Emotively captivating vocals and a soft, gentle groove evoke Brooklyn’s WET alongside a softly glowing Shura warmth, while some of Kevin Garrett’s tingles inducing soulfulness commingles with a crisp pop appeal reminiscent of Sara Bareilles’ heart wrenching piano ballads of yore. Poison is a stunning song, a treasure whose glimmering polish lures us blissfully into its bittersweet entanglement. It’s also a reverberating statement from a very exciting new Boston act, a must watch band as the year continues to slowly unfurl.

Today also saw the release of a brand new video by (now) Berkeley resident chillwave and electro funk artist Toro Y Moi. As someone who went to Cal and lived around there for nearly a decade, I can’t help but take great pride that we can now call this talented musician our neighbor. The new and novel animated “impressionist painting” clip is soundtracked by Toro Y Moi’s Rose Quartz, a groovy, relaxed, soulful jam and fourth single off his excellent album Anything In Return.
