Kunzite is without a doubt one of the more intriguing newcomers of the new year so far. The project just debuted today with their first single, MONKS, an indie electro meets psych pop prancer with hints of reggae trickling through in its rhythmic cadence. The two producers and multi-instrumentalists who make up this band are no strangers to the music scene. Mike Stroud of RATATAT and Agustin White of WHITE FLIGHT are the gentlemen responsible for this sweet tune, and they describe their sound as a “multidimensional sound stream broadcasting from the inner depths of Earth, while simulataneously emanating from the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy.” More info about the pair can be found on their website, here. We were introduced to Tord Øverland Knudsen of The Wombats and Marius Drogsås Hagen of Team Me’s ‘super-project’ Imitating Aeroplanes when the pair shared their second single Stomping Ground earlier this month. They took us on a spacey spiraling cosmic trip with their alt pop and synthrock. They delve even further into the kaleidoscopic and the psychedelic with new song H.I.T.S. The glorious new anthem’s prismatic brilliance rivals that of Tame Impala and Mutemath, with some extra funk punch and pop pull. H.I.T.S. is taken from Imitating Aeroplanes’ forthcoming debut album Planet Language, out September 22nd via Propeller Recordings. Pre-order, here.

Davey Havok has always been a busy music man. Aside from AFI, Blaqk Audio, and plenty of other projects over the years, we can now add new supergroup DREAMCAR to his prolific resume, too. And what an exciting new supergroup this is! Aside from frontman Davey Havok, the band involves three members of No Doubt, including guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young. DREAMCAR arrive with gusto, jumping straight away to announcing a debut self titled album and swiftly presenting with its magnificent first single entitled Kill For Candy. There’s always been an 80′s essence in Davey Havok’s glossy smooth voice, and it’s joined by 80′s inspired, vigorous driving new wavey rock on their infectious anthem. We get to feel like part of the band in the video for Kill For Candy. DREAMCAR has already announced US tour dates as well as a performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Learn more on their website, here. The band’s debut album is due out May 12th via Columbia Records.

Heads up, electronic music loving kids! A new “supergroup” of French producers has formed, and their name is Slow Hours. Lain, Kultur, Astre, Khamsin, Kidswaste, and Rusty Hook have combined their bountiful talent to give us Slow Hour’s first track, a turbulently exhilarating and tremulously gripping remix of What So Not and Ganz’s Lone, featuring JOY. This ruffled intense bass and trap remix is wildly tempestuous yet chromatically stunning, a ferocious gleaming eruption of gut punching beauty. What So Not promises a full Divide and Conquer remix package soon. In the meantime, you can stream or purchase that EP, here. Slow Hours’ Lone remix can be downloaded free, here.

It’s always exciting when members from different fantastic bands come together to form a supergroup, though the resulting music isn’t always as spectacular as the stuff from their original bands. Summer Moon’s With You Tonight, however, is an example of when it really works well. Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Spring, Lewis Lazar, The Strokes’ Nikolai Fraiture, and Like’s Tennessee Thomas come together as Summer Moon to dole out a muggy dance rock jangler, heavily imbued with a funking, whimsical groove. It reminds me of Modest Mouse’s more uptempo offerings, but drenched in disco flavored, flushed pluckiness. This one’s fit for a very good twirl around the room.

Do you remember Swedish indie supergroup Amason? The band boasts quite a few talented members, including members of Miike Snow, Idiot Wind, and Dungen, among others. Amason has announced their debut album Sky City, due out January 27 via Fairfax Recordings. They’ve also dropped a video for reflective, intoxicating synthpop single Duvan, an opulent, retro flavored gem that’s very much graceful and ornate. Amason made their American debut last month at CMJ, and they’ll be back for a tour in 2015.
