We’re elated that some of our music friends have brought SUMif’s energetic and enrapturing live show to NYC recently. It’s about time the East Coast had a taste of how scintillating the singer songwriter and producer’s buoyant bouncing electro-pop always is live. And now that Steph Wells has come back home to San Francisco, the local scene is in for another SUMif treat this Saturday when she opens for Young Galaxy at Popscene, where she’s become a welcome regular treat of sorts. Every SUMif set inspires a euphoric dance party, and every SUMif song has never failed us when it comes to wildly infectious, wonderfully hooking pop, too. Case in point, brand new single Say, a crisply aerated electro-pop ballad topped with Steph’s always disarming and effortless vocals. SUMif addresses the tumultuous emotions involved in desire and longing, or the universal battle between head and the heart, on her synth fluid gem. You can also stream Say via Spotify, here. San Francisco, get out to and have an epic Saturday night at Popscene with SUMif and Young Galaxy, show info available, here.

It’s been a treat watching queer San Francisco based artist and producer SUMif ascend the electro-pop ranks with her music this past year. Steph Wells, the musician behind the magic, first caught our ears with wildly infectious Lay Down, a song that still pops into our heads at the most random of moments (and we sure do cherish it when that happens). We’ve also had the pleasure of catching her energetic and charismatic sets live countless times at Popscene in San Francisco. It was just this week that I caught wind from industry friends that Steph will be bringing SUMif to her very first show in New York soon, and we’re excited for all the new fans she’s going to reel in when she does. SUMif returns today with new single Love Shop, a vivacious glimmering, saccharine pulsing electropop song and another instantaneously hooking, snappy contagious addition to her growing compendium of earworms. SUMif told C-Heads Magazine about the song:

“The crazy passion and intensity in the beginning of a relationship can drive anyone mad and I’m certainly not immune to that. There’s no fiercer feeling than the possibility of a love story unfolding, besides of course, the feeling of interest fading and that story ending. Love Shop is about getting wrapped up in the women who have come into my life and losing myself completely into something that wasn’t even real. It’s this realization that ultimately sets me free – that I deserve more than an illusion of love.” We’re more than ready to hop and dance to this jaunty and peppy new SUMif jam, which is a free download, here.

When it comes to local music, there’s no denying that San Francisco based electro-pop artist and producer SUMif has been a breakout artist to watch. I still can’t get enough of her icy pulsing hit Lay Down, from over a year ago, which I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing live many a time, and now Steph Wells, the musician behind the magic, has released her eight track debut EP, Pretty Cage. The addictive collection of versatile electronic pop songs are a sure sign of a massive year ahead for SUMif as she prepares to return to Popscene at the Rickshaw Stop this Friday to celebrate the EP release with a co-headline set. From the three new songs premiered on Pretty Cage comes this sleek polished, cool throbbing aria, Go. Dark panoramic synths endow Go’s crisp and contagious electropop. It’s an effortless performance whose lavish production and sophisticated arrangement is thoroughly captivating, even abutting into dance and electronic territory with its future bass like rolls. SUMif’s EP Pretty Cage can be streamed on Soundcloud, here. Support on iTunes, here. Catch her at Popscene this Friday with Saro and fellow Bay Area project vverevvolf, details, here.

It’s quite fortuitous that Steph Wells, better known as electo-pop artist and producer SUMif, resides right here in the Bay. I’ve had the pleasure of catching her live numerous times due to our proximity, and she’s always been quite the spirited stage charmer when she belted out her melodious springing pop. While uber infectious Lay Down might stay my favorite SUMif song for a long time to come, I’m much enamored by her new single IDW, too. It’s a long awaited return and her first release of the year, and it certainly does not disappoint with its crisp bounce, sultry plateaus, and dulcet glitchiness. SUMif explains that her new track was inspired by The xx and Tei Shi. The dynamic quality of this ever ebbing and flowing aria is a testament to SUMif’s talent. We’re very proud to have her as a part of the Bay Area music scene. IDW is available from iTunes, here.

I knew I’d encountered something special when I first stumbled upon SUMif’s Lay Down several moons ago during our long gone summer. Not only did she display an ingenious capability to synthesize vibrant rousing electropop, but she also lulled us with a dulcet yet haunting iciness that felt intimate and genuine. Sure enough, the buzz on SUMif has grown exponentially since we first shared that tune with you. Lucky for me, SUMif hails from right here in San Francisco, and I get to watch her perform her music at a special Popscene Holiday Party on December 16th that also features other fellow Bay Area talents like birthday and CATHEDRALS. I’m certainly looking forward to hearing SUMif’s brand new track Everything. Subtle future chops and slices embellish this magnetic electronic pop aria. Everything is dreamy celestial yet immediate and ensnaring, once again embodying that duality I found on SUMif’s prior tracks. You can grab the track for free, here.

It’s time to head back home to the Bay as SUMif’s serenades us with saccharine vocals and supple pulsating electronic pop. SUMif is Steph Wells, a San Francisco based artist who traded in her acoustic guitars for midi controllers after exploring her music identity in NYU and Nashville. Lay Down is her latest endearing song. Despite its icy bold synths and vibrant bouncing beat, there’s an unpretentious and intimate warmth to Lay Down in its harmonies and dulcet melody. Lay Down is a free download on Soundcloud.
