[PREMIERE] La Bouquet – Loveless (Sunshine Sessions)

Leonardo Da Vinci once famously said, “a life without love, is no life at all.”  Even if some of our hearts have tucked themselves away to avoid getting crushed for the umpteenth time, we can live vicariously through the stripped back beauty and intimate charm of this finely rendered new acoustic video from La Bouquet. We join Bryan Sammis (The Neighbourhood, Olivver the Kid) and Jake Lopez as they melt us to no end with their poignantly heartfelt rendition of Loveless. La Bouquet made a huge imprint on the new music scene over a year ago with the debut single, a sleek stirring, infectious driving torrent of earthy alt rock and rambunctious alt pop. You can watch La Bouquet’s music video for Loveless, here.

The band’s performance of Loveless in their new “Sunshine Sessions” video is immaculate. Every strum, each twang, and even the raspy drawl of La Bouquet’s vocals on this gentle lullaby are deeply affecting, as if rising and reverberating from secret chambers within our own hearts. “Maybe I’m just hopeless enough to feel alone, but selfish enough to write this song,” they coo. Ah, but that’s there they get it wrong. It’s selfless of them to gift us such an earnestly moving ballad. It’s a heart-on-the-sleeve confessional, a piercingly sad and strikingly sincere meditation that feels particularly vulnerable and exposed on their cozy and pastoral new arrangement.

Loveless can be found on La Bouquet’s four track debut EP, Heavy Sunshine, which is available from iTunesAmazonGoogle Play, and Spotify. Keep up with La Bouquet via FacebookTwitterInstagram, or their website, here.

New Zealand’s The Naked and Famous have released three albums since they dashed onto the scene to steal us away with their new wavey synthpop and atmospheric electro-rock what seems like forever ago, but their first album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ will always hold a special place in my heart. Early singles like Young Blood and Punching In A Dream are still personal favorites. Hearing them in any way, shape, or form takes me back in time to 2010, long before the inception of this blog. Lately, TNaF has been revealing stripped down renditions of some of their greatest hits, and I find myself nearly shedding a tear over this newly released version of Punching In A Dream. The gently wafting acoustic arrangement is breathtakingly beautiful. It brings a deep rooted sadness with it, and find myself missing the youthful, carefree candor of days long gone. Alisa Xayalith’s familiar voice, drawn hauntingly through a vocoder, leads us on a misty, wistful journey of poignant introspection. This is most certainly the most stunning track we’ve heard so far from The Naked and Famous’ forthcoming acoustic album  A Still Heart, arriving in March. You can listen to more of the album’s songs via Soundcloud, here.

If that our last feature hasn’t already rendered your heart a complete molten mess, then this one will certainly do the job. Matt Maeson has presented us with a stripped down version of his song Tribulation, one of six tracks off his acclaimed debut EP Who Killed Matt Maeson. You can stream the EP and the original version of Tribulation on Soundcloud, here. The singer songwriter’s new peeled back rendition of Tribulation is deeply affecting, tender, and raw. Its rootsy rock and earthy soul drip with authentic anguish and lovesick sorrow. Tribulation (Stripped) is out now via Neon Gold / Atlantic Records.

Electropop artist Anne-Marie offers a stripped version of her song ‘Peak’. It’s a fresh take on her muscality as ‘Peak’ allows Anne-Marie, the three time karate champion, to surrender herself over a piano playing in the background. It’s a delicate track that pulls at the heart strings.

I know I’ve said it plenty times before, but if you haven’t seen Jack Garratt live, you need to go out and see him, and if you have, you’ll find yourself hungry for more. Words cannot express how immensely talented the BBC Sound of 2016 champion is, whether while commanding the stage, playing a wide array of instruments, or while crooning through speakers or headphones, melting our hearts with his soulful voice. You can get a little taste of that stage charisma as the UK singer songwriter and producer belts out a brand new single, Surprise Yourself, in a live, stripped back performance for VEVO Lift. Surprise Yourself comes from Jack Garratt’s debut album, Phase, out this Friday on Island Records. Phase is going to be an obvious contender for top album of the year. Stream the album version of gospel imbued electro soul anthem, Surprise Yourself below.
