There wasn’t a single corner of my own heart that could keep still upon encountering the news that Still Corners would be releasing a third album entitled Dead Blue. I’ve been a long time fan of this British duo, and both of their prior albums Creatures Of An Hour and Strange Pleasures had been deeply enrapturing experiences for me. Hypnotic first single Lost Boys, which laments falling for the wrong person, also holds no still corners. It’s a glacial pulsing, dark oscillating, fluid surging display of the duo’s brilliant handle on glamorous intoxicating dream pop, synthpop, and psychedelic new wave. Watch their music video for the glorious cut below. Dead Blue can be pre-ordered prior to its September 1th release date via the band’s own imprint label Wrecking Light Records, here.

Still Corners’ The White Season comes from the dreamy British synthpop band’s excellent 2011 album, Creatures of an Hour, released on Sub Pop Records.  The White Season’s snowy, milky ambiance is the perfect fit for this week’s wintry festivities, so when Still Corners shared the song again and I happened to catch the Facebook post, I knew… this was a must add to today’s features. The White Season sparkles and enchants with the beauty of moonlit ice crystals, but its that longing nostalgia and melancholic undertone that gets me every time I listen to it.

I was literally leaping for joy when I saw the news this morning. Still Corners are back, and they have a gorgeous new single to prove it! The London based synthpop and dream pop duo have been a favorite of mine since debut album Creatures Of An Hour back in 2011 on Sub Pop. Their misty music gets me every time, and it’s no different with Horses At Night, their new dream gazey song which even boasts a gloriously simmering guitar solo. Horses At Night’s bittersweet nostalgia and jaded melancholia has me slow twirling around the room with a heavy heart but a light and limber body. I’m hoping that Horses At Night means more new material is in the works. While we tentatively wait, we can watch the video below for Horses At Night too, which isn’t an official music video but is a captivating albeit simple accompaniment. I can’t count the number of times I’ve listened to Horses At Night today already. Join me. You can purchase Horses At Night from Still Corner’s bandcamp.

OFFICIAL VID: Still Corners – Fireflies

August 28, 2013

UK indie pop duo Still Corners’ Fireflies is an absolutely intoxicating, dreamy track off their excellent sophomore album Strange Pleasures from earlier this year. If you still haven’t checked them out despite my ravings in the past and you’re a Phantogram fan, it’s time you tune in. They have a brighter, warmer sound than most of Phantogram’s darker work, but there’s a sure similarity in some of their songs. Fireflies is a gorgeous track, and I’m glad the new video allowed me to revisit it.

OFFICIAL VID: Still Corners – Berlin Lovers

April 4, 2013

Here’s the brand new video for UK indie pop duo Still Corner’s new single Berlin Lovers. It’s fantastic! They had the audio up for free download back in late February, and I was really excited to see their return since I was very fond of their 2011 album Creatures of An Hour. They definitely did not disappoint me with Berlin Lovers. It’s Phantogram like and dreamy as heck, though far crisper than some of their other work. Sophomore album Strange Pleasures drops on May 7th via Sub Pop.

New Still Corners!

February 26, 2013

Yay! London indie pop act Still Corners have returned with a new track, and it’s free for all to download! Berlin Lovers will be on their coming sophomore album Strange Pleasures, out May 7 off Sub Pop. I was pretty fond of their debut album Creatures Of An Hour back in 2011. With how nommy Berlin Lovers sounds, I can’t wait to hear the rest of the new songs. The gorgeous synthy track is filled with a dreamy quality and enchanting vocals that again draw comparisons in my mind to Phantogram/Sarah Barthel. In this track and perhaps on the forthcoming album, they seem to be going for a more crisp, less foggier sound. This also seemed true of single Fireflies, which they released back in fall last year. I’ll tack that on below. We’ll have to see how the rest of it pans out!

Fireflies:

While we’re at it, let’s visit a few tracks from 2011! You’ll definitely hear what I mean comparing the above to the below.
