I was revisiting this recent remix this morning, and letting it put me in such a fantastic TGIF mood, that I decided I had to tack it on to today’s features, since I somehow never made my way around to sharing it. Swedish folk musician Jose Gonzalez’s Stay Alive is likely a song I will love till the day I die. Everytime those first bars hit, I’m freshly in love again. The song was one of several he contributed to the soundtrack for the hollywood film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Of course, sentimental, folksy ballads like these make for perfect tropical house remixes. Who else but Dutch producer Sam Feldt would turn in a fantastic edit? He teams up with Chris Meid on the remix, and they enlist Ben Rodenburg on sultry sax. Despite the balmy atmosphere of the song, there’s still such a bittersweet poignancy to the song that carries over from the original.

I seriously, seriously love that we get to enjoy all sorts of music from all corners of the world these days. Case in point, we turn to Poland for some beautiful synthpop music from a duo named Last Blush. Stay Alive is an entrancing and beautiful song with some M83 evoking, dreamy flourishes and a softly thudding beat that could very well be my own heartbeat, gliding along with the atmospheric music. Along with the song comes a terrific music video, too.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw a new remix of Swedish folk artist Jose Gonzalez’s ruminative, heartwrenching beauty, Stay Alive. The song is easily one of my favorites from this past year. You might recognize it from the soundtrack for Hollywood film The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. Jose Gonzalez is respected for his solo work (and that amazing cover of The Knife’s Heartbeats years ago) as well as his work under his band Junip. Stay Alive is one of my favorite numbers from him in a long, long time, despite my love of so many tracks off Junip’s last release. So, imagine my delight when I saw this remix, by none other than Swiss producer Black Space, who’s quite the genius when it comes to beautiful melodic house remixes. It’s a sweeping rendition that gives the bittersweet song a much more tropical, laid back atmosphere. Of course, nothing compares to the original, but this is a very welcome addition.

Last week, I featured the song Step Out by Swedish singer songwriter Jose Gonzalez, of whom I’m a devoted fan of, thanks to all his solo work and his work with his band Junip. Step Out is off of the soundtrack for the Ben Stiller starring film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and if you’ve paid attention to the gazillion television ads that have been showing for the movie, you would’ve heard the song soundtracking the trailer. While Step Out is a stupendous, soaring tune that stands out from a lot of Gonzalez’s other more subtle or folksier music, Stay Alive, another of his contributions to the soundtrack, is delicate and soft spoken. It’s a beautiful, heart melting song that I couldn’t help but fall deeply in love with, even more so than Step Out. Stay Alive is one of those tunes that make your legs feel all jello-y and weak. Surprisingly, Ryan Adams wrote the song for Jose Gonzalez! In retrospect, you can hear some of Adams’ touch in the song indeed! Today saw the release of an official video fro the track, which ties in closely to the film. I find myself really wanting to see the film. Accompany a film with good music? Easy way to reel me in.
