In case you missed this treat late last week, let’s dive into the wonderfully eerie music video for ZHU’s Exhale/Stardust, featuring blood red forests and spectral images, as well as a strange and bizarre turn into a corporeal spectacle. Both Exhale and Stardust are lifted from the celebrated producer’s EP, stardustexhalemarrakechdreams. The video’s striking decadence and cinematic grandeur complements ZHU’s trademark dark and graphic style of house music. Grab the EP these songs are off from, here. Side note: can someone tell me why The Weeknd and ZHU haven’t officially collaborated yet?

Apparently, we’re in the midst of an Icelandic love affair this afternoon. We follow up on our prior feature Axel Flóvent’s new single with Ásgeir’s latest, a song named Stardust that comes by way of a vibrant and prismatic music video. In case you missed the announcement when we shared Unbound earlier this year, this Icelandic singer-songwriter and musician is preparing to drop the follow up album to 2014′s excellent In the Silence. Get excited for Afterglow, which arrives soon on May 5th. Stardust is a lush lilter and one of Ásgeir’s more luminous treats. It caresses us with its ginger groove and enchants us with an airy aesthetic. In the center of it all is that easy sailing Ásgeir voice, which I can never, ever resist. Pre-order new album Afterglow, here.

The word “stardust” itself immediately evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity as our minds promptly stray to the intergalactic and the other worldly. Yet, as esteemed scientist Carl Sagan and respected musician Moby have both famously alluded to in the past, we are in fact, made of that same stardust. Our past lies in the cosmos, and when we look up towards the sky and gaze at images of stars projected to us from light years away, we are really peering into our very own souls.

That same depth of emotion, a similar sense of self discovery, and an identical array of heartrending universal truths are expertly captured in Aash Mehta’s second EP, Stardust. The now Chicago based producer released his powerful six track electronic album last Friday. Stardust features a series of deeply rousing future bass and future pop arias, which all come together as chapters of a whole. Aash Mehta explains that Stardust is a very personal project for him, having written, produced, and mixed it all himself. Hold Onto Me, the second track on the EP, fluctuates between misty pensive and grandly surging. We latch on to Aviella’s warm comforting voice as we rocket through deep space with Aash Mehta. Bursting galaxies and breath catching wormholes unfold before us. As we inch ever closer to a mysterious black hole, as space-time bends upon itself and we near its event horizon, we find that past heartbreak, future regret, and present hope have all melded together into an epic and inescapable saga, one undeniably human despite all the stardust. Stardust’s 1998 hit ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ gets an update by new Canadian duo Vanrip. This fresh modern house rendition is emphasized with a rowdy bass. The original is more pulsating where this is more instant gratification.

A Zeds Dead track involving Los Angeles synthpop troubadour Twin Shadow is an unexpected surprise, but what isn’t a curiosity is the fact that George Lewis Jr’s dramatic vocals and this Canadian production duo’s legendary craftsmanship could result in something as dark ravishing and fiery smoldering as Stardust. After all, we’re used to epic intensity from Twin Shadow, and who else but Zeds Dead could take advantage of that to the fullest? Gritty whomping Stardust teems with burning chords and biting guitar. It’s also the opening track on Zeds Dead’s forthcoming album Northern Lights which features a sensational list of guest talent including Pusha T, Diplo, and Rivers Cuomo.
