A few years ago, we knew Spencer Ludwig as the dashing trumpet guy in Capital Cities. Fast forward to today, and the fast rising vocalist/instrumentalist is quickly etching out his own space in the indie scene as a solo artist. Spencer embarks on the next phase of that career with the release of his latest single, Just Wanna Dance, an utterly infectious eruption of disco funk imbued glittery pop. Of course, no Spencer Ludwig track is complete without some jocular trumpet solos to keep us grooving. The only thing left to do is to get up and dance the night away to the fresh and funky treat. The rest of 2018 is going to be massive for Spencer Ludwig. YouTube chose him as one of ten acts for their prestigious “Artists In Residence” program. He kicked off the year opening for The Chainsmokers and Jason Derulo, and he just wrapped up his tour with Betty Who, but he’ll be performing at Bonnaroo and so much more in the coming months, too. Just Wanna Dance is available, here.

Many know Spencer Ludwig as the dashing trumpeter from Capital Cities who adds so much steam to the band’s dazzling funk pop music. The musician has also worked with a remarkable list of other indie talent in the wake of Capital Cities massive success, but if there’s anything I’ve been long awaiting, it’s Spencer Ludwig’s solo debut. He makes a debonair entrance with Right Into U, a disco luscious summer sizzler. Throw on those dancing shoes, because Spencer’s sexy sleek song calls for some major dance floor shredding. Alongside Right Into U comes funky chic Diggy, which you can stream below. This one’s the epitome of frisky freaky fun. Right Into U and Diggy are both available now on various outlets, here and here respectively.

“Next Jack Swing” goes chunky disco on a dazzling remix of French Horn Rebellion’s Play Your Part by NYC production wizard LEFTI. The original track, which features Spencer Ludwig of Capital Cities trumpet fame, is already a scintillating treat with swooning horns. LEFTI’s edit takes it to new levels of daring dance floor boldness. It’s richly luminous and glamorously exuberant. The original comes from French Horn Rebellion’s exhilarating Foolin’ Around EP, available on iTunes.

Jumping on early today for a piece of exciting news I’ve been sitting on and fidgeting to share. Ryan Merchant, one part of a certain band many of you probably love named Capital Cities, has formed a new side project with Capital Cities’ epic trumpeter Spencer Ludwig. The songwriting collaboration, History, has revealed their very first song, a chic, swank tune, also named History. To add icing to the sweet lavish cake, RAC, or André Anjos, turns in some signature, sumptuous indie dance co-production. History is a slick and glossy synthpop tune. It’s laced with a flushed dose of snazzy funky freshness, the same kind the world has come to identify with Capital Cities. However, History also oozes over with extravagant seductive smoothness in addition to plenty of Spencer’s commanding, luxuriant horns. The debut song is a free download now, via SoundCloud. For those of you who are huge Capital Cities fans, like I am, don’t worry. Capital Cities will begin work on album number two soon, despite Sebu and Ryan/Spencer’s side releases.

OFFICIAL VID: Capital Cities – Kangaroo Court

Every time I think about Capital Cities, I’m still blown away by how huge they’ve become. They’ll always be that dear lil’ band I’ve seen so many times in intimate settings and jumped like crazy to each time Safe and Sound came on. Kangaroo Court was easily my second most favorite Capital Cities tune for a very long time, though many other tracks vie for that position now. It’s a wonderful choice to follow up the immensely popular Safe and Sound as their latest single off debut album In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery. Way to go, Capital Cities. You’ve done it! I wonder if I’ll be seeing you in a small venue ever again. Thanks for all the good times. Thanks for the brief friendly chats. Thanks for the music.
