Little needs to be said when something as epic as a Soulwax remix of Jagwar Ma is gifted to us by some divine act of the music gods, but let’s revel in the magnificence of this phenomenal track anyway. The electro rock and acid house legends have given Jagwar Ma’s psychedelic thrumming Slipping a hypnotic trip of an edit for the Australian band’s new Every Now & Zen EP. Prepare for a brain liquefying experience as the remix pulses, jabs, and throbs with just the right amount of shiver inducing stringency and wired tightness. Jagwar Ma’s Every Now & Zen EP is available, here. A limited edition 12″ vinyl can be pre-ordered, here. Stream the remix via Soundcloud below.

Before you get wildly befuddled by the specifics of this song, let’s just make it clear that “Charlotte” is not a real band. In fact, it’s a fake band from a film entitled Belgica, directed by Felix van Groeningen. The movie is about brothers who run a music club, and its soundtrack has been crafted by none other than Belgian electro rock and acid house legends, Soulwax. The trio composed a bevy of tunes for all the fake bands in the film. Pretty cool, right? Today, we’re introduced to Charlotte, and apparently, I like Charlotte lots. I would be a fan of the band if they actually existed. Soulwax’s Charlotte song, The Best Thing, is a darkly hypnotic journey, a neo soul and electronic pop slow burner. Emile Sande and Skunk Anansie qualities combine over a deliberately paced, rousing electronic panorama of expanding sound. The soundtrack for Belgica gets a release on February 26th. Brazilian via Italy and USA artist Emmanuelle is signed to Soulwax’s label Deewee, and she makes a peppy, bouncy debut on a cool laptop pop single named Free Hifi Internet. It’s a cheeky tune that feels like Prince meets PC Music with some CSS. Emmanuelle’s minimalist yet jittery song is sugary addictive. Free Hifi Internet The whimsical and artsy single drops on December 18th.

I’m pretty sure there are many music heads who agree with me when I say that Tame Impala’s Let It Happen is one of the best songs of 2015, and it’ll likely keep the throne for the rest of the year. While the original, particularly the album version of it, is as perfect as it gets, so much so that Jamie xx played it unedited and untouched in his own set earlier this year, it’s still an undeniably epic treat to get to hear a remix of Let It Happen by legendary Belgian quartet Soulwax. Get ready for an extra dash of acid tang and some brain jostling warping on the grooving remix, a very DFA and LCD sort of heavenly concoction.

It’s not often we hear from Belgium veterans Soulwax nowadays, but the few times they’ve reared their head into the scene, I’ve been much enamored. Last year, Soulwas remixed Pulp for Record Store Day, and I was floored by the resulting spin on After You. So much so that I purchased the limited edition Record Store Day vinyl. Soulwax has done it again today with this sick rendition of English wonky electronic pop band Metronomy’s new single Love Letters. The disco vibes are strong on this one. It’s a hypnotic, super DFA flavored, six and a half minute frenetic romp with endless enthralling twists and turns. It’s bone chilling good.

Soulwax remixed Pulp!

April 19, 2013

And so all the Record Store Day exclusives will begin to flood us. Belgium electronic rock band Soulwax remixed Pulp! Here’s their sick rendition of Pulp’s Afer You (which was produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem). Whoooowee. The remix will drop on 12" vinyl this Saturday. I’m visiting a record store on Saturday, how about you? Record Store Day!

Spawl II remix

Soulwax remixed Arcade Fire’s beloved Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains). As an Arcade Fire fan, I approve of this remix. Who doesn’t love another new version of lovely couple Regine and Win’s beautiful track off The Suburbs? And it’s a dang good one too! Here’s the radio rip:
