If you’re unfamiliar with Irish singer songwriter Dermot Kennedy, prepare to be stunned by his sensational vocals and raw storytelling as we dive into the music video for his latest single, Moments Passed. The tour de force alt single has been creating a huge buzz since its release a couple months ago. Moments Passed’s soulful inflection and gritty delivery are reminiscent of Rag’N’Bone Man and Maverick Sabre, with some of the dynamic intensity and emotive power of Ben Howard. Its visuals, directed by Nabil Elderkin (Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Kanye West) brings to life the song’s impassioned symbolism framed by Dermot’s heart wrenching lyrics. The short is described as a “tale of long lost love weaving between the past and present…” You can grab the single, here.

My heart fluttered with maniacal excitement when I first encountered news of new Cold War Kids. I’ve had quite a long love affair with these Long Beach rockers, whose sound draws heavily on post-punk, soul, and heartland blues. The trio sweep me away with yet another exhilarating dose of that recipe on Love Is Mystical, lifted from forthcoming album L.A. Divine, due out April 7th. The scratchy chugging, sooty electrifying anthem comes by way of a new music video, too. Stream Love Is Mystical via additional services or purchase the single from various outlets, here.

Toting a hooking palette made up of soulful rock and alternative pop is Oregon’s My Brothers And I, who just unleashed a 11 track debut full length named Don’t Dream Alone, out now on Expunged Records. Off the record comes a spectacularly melodic and warmly moving ballad named Dream. Though it’s a heartrending melter, Dream also slings a stirring bass line. Head over to Soundcloud to listen to the rest of the rising band’s debut full length.

Ever since his deeply soulful crooning riveted me on his prior releases, it’s been obvious that a new Lawrence Taylor song could be expected to be a tour de force of emotion and power. Sure enough, Chains is yet another riveting chimera of blues, soul, and rock from the 22 year old singer songwriter from London. Lawrence Taylor delivers exceptional vocals on Chains again, not a surprise at all after having reminded me of both John Newman and Chet Faker in the past. Chains is an urgent song, one that, like its lyrics suggest, bursts with ever growing fervent conviction. Accompanied by Hozier like stirringly bluesy guitars, Chains is a wholly moving yet intimate listen. Lawrence Taylor will be releasing a debut Bang Bang EP later this fall. He’s also playing his debut headline show at The Servants Jazz Quarters in London on November 12th.

22 year old UK based singer songwriter Lawrence Taylor is back with his second stunning tune off a forthcoming debut EP. Like debut track Waiting For Your Love, Bang Bang is a powerful song bursting with red hot passion. Lawrence’s vocals are incredible on the song, gliding and flying with such a velvety smoothness, evoking a blend of Chet Faker and John Newman, but paired with the bluesy, soulful rock of Hozier. Lawrence Taylor’s debut EP will be out in Autumn this year.

The Afghan Whigs cover Frank Ocean

American alt/soul rock band The Afghan Whigs did an amazing rendition of Frank Ocean’s Lovecrimes. They’ve performed it live at their gigs, and today, there is an HQ studio version available for download. All you have to sacrifice is your email address. Here’s a wonderful video of their performance of the cover at New York’s Bowery Ballroom back in May, and download the tune below the video. It sounds completely and utterly different with their touch on it. In fact, it sounds dang freaking good.
