If you’re as much a long time fan of HONNE as we are, then I’m sure you’ve already been celebrating the return of the UK electro soul band. Not only have they blessed us with new music, but they’ve dropped two fresh songs all at once, and they’re making their way back on to the stage this May with a sold out intimate show at Village Underground, too.
Day 1 ◑ / Sometimes ◐ are our first introductions to creamy swooning HONNE’s forthcoming second album. Just like quintessential HONNE hit, Warm On A Cold Night, they keep us cozy and content on a cool spring day with their snazzy plush soul and romance us with their luxuriant R&B on the new diptych of tunes. HONNE has been working on their sophomore album for the last 18 months. We can’t wait to hear the fruits of their hard work. Day 1 ◑ is available, here, and Sometimes ◐ is available, here.

I’m still kicking myself for having to miss Mothica when I was at SXSW a month ago. I saw her stickers all over the place too… in bathroom stalls, on building walls… yet I never got to see the magnetic singer songwriter from New York perform. I’m hoping I’ll get to to see her in San Francisco someday soon. For now, I’ll tumble into the sublime depths of tempestuous new single Sometimes.

Mothica’s husky seductive vocals and the impassioned opulence on her future R&B ballad combine for a torrent of dark sultriness that rivals that of Banks and George Maple. Mothica is gearing up for the release of her sophomore EP, Heavy Heart, due to arrive in May. We look forward to it with stratospheric glee.

In case you didn’t know what the meaning is behind the phrase “bee’s nees”, let me clarify for you. The saying alludes to the fact that nectar sticks to the legs of the buzzing insects when they move from flower to flower, so it’s in fact a slang term for anything that is “sweet and good”. Los Angeles duo Bee’s Nees are more than just sweet and good when it comes to their fresh new remix of SNBRN’s infectious hit Sometimes, featuring Holly Winter. Bee’s Knees gives the track an absolutely delicious and contagiously warm deep funky house edit. Brisk booming beats and frisky horns make this flirtatious dance number a dapper suitor you can’t refuse.

SNBRN brings us ooey gooey summer sunshine on the Los Angeles producer’s new single, Sometimes, which features vocals by Nashville’s Holly Winter. It’s literally the perfect treat to ring in June, a nostalgia laden mix of future bass and chill indie house. I’m taken back to the gorgeous solo hike I just enjoyed along the Santa Cruz coastline this past holiday weekend while my friends were surfing. The cool spray of the deep blue sea fills the air as powerful waves break on imposing rocks below me. A breezy draft envelopes me in fresh ocean air.  The sun reflects brilliantly in the distance.  And the world has never been more beautiful, despite all of its flaws. SNBRN reminds us that sometimes, it’s okay to let go and live for the moment, that those scars might still hurt but we don’t have to dwell on them. Sometimes, we should just dance, rather than worry away a magnificent day. We’ll be fine. Especially with SNBRN and Holly Winter here to keep those demons at bay. Sometimes is available now on iTunes.

Out of the shows that I’m sad I missed last year, right up there at the top is Oscar’s San Francisco debut back in October at Popscene in San Francisco. Of course, I had a very valid reason to miss the show, as I was catching some splendid live music over in Paris, but there’s no avoiding the fact that I was gutted that I didn’t get to see the Londoner when he was in town. Hopefully, when Oscar drops his debut album Cut And Paste on May 13th, he’ll head back out on the road and make his way across the pond again. As we wait for that to happen, let’s dive into Oscar’s exuberant new video for Sometimes, which was shot in various locations in and around Los Angeless. Its off kilter quality goes hand in hand with the guitar pop playfulness and mangy charm of Oscar’s catchy tune. Pre-order Oscar’s debut LP on iTunes or from Wichita Recordings.

Electropop band Bad Wave is pretty high up on my emerging California bands to watch list, but much attention needs to be paid to one of its member’s solo projects as well. Patrick Hart, who goes by the name The Golden Peppers for the new project, just released first single Sometimes (One Night), a sticky yet sleek jangler of an alt pop song that mixes glittering modern with dusty retro. Sometimes (One Night) is the latest release from record label 10K Islands for their song a Friday series. Watch the music video for the hooking treat below.

Life Of Jack Red is a singer songwriter and producer from Chicago who’s already worked with an incredible list of well known talent, including Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Sir The Baptist, and Wyclef Jean. The talented artist makes a solo debut with a raw and stirring song named Sometimes, on which his crisp and poignant vocals make an indelible mark in my heart. Orchestral strings add to the mournful effects of the powerful song, a gut wrenching blend of R&B and soul. The stark emotion and captivating lyrics on Sometimes remind me of another sensational artist rising meteorically out of the woodwork this year, named Stephen. I think we’d better get ready for some magnificent things from Life Of Jack Red in 2016 as he readies an EP.

Alright, I’m just gonna stick to this Aussie/NZ thing a bit
