Cleveland’s SomeKindaWonderful have been mostly silent since they released their eponymous self titled album two years ago, which included one of my favorite alt singles of that year, Reverse. So, I’m pretty pleased that the band has returned with new music. The electro-rock-pop group ventures into fresh territory on new single Lion, which sports a gritty hip hop cadence and the shadowy, sooty slink of The Neighbourhood. Lion is quite the unique concoction with its rugged guitars, lilting beats, and glitchy electronic tone. Lion is out now on Vertigo / Capitol, a division of Universal Music. SomeKindaWonderful also released a droopy intoxicating alt/electronic track named Wheels Up a few months ago featuring Casey Veggies. Stream below.

Last year, I was kind of obsessed with a song, Reverse, by Cleveland alternative act SomeKindaWonderful, who went on to drop their debut album months after. The versatile act also offered up a cover of California Love around that time, turning into a gritty and slinky alt number. New York based producer Chachi turned in a fresh remix of that cover, giving California Love heaps of cold blooded, steely future house and electro dramatics. It’s a banger well worthy of some California loving.

Serbian-Australian producer Dirty South is sure to surprise many ears with his latest track, Tunnel Vision, off a sophomore album that many are anticipating with much eagerness. Tunnel Vision is an unexpectedly dark and gritty tune, featuring vocals by Ohio band SomeKindaWonderful, the very same band that enamored me endlessly with their song Reverse earlier this year. The track pulses intensely and dramatically like some techno electro alt chameleon, and I, for one, find it immensely exhilarating and addictive. Dirty South’s new album With You is set to drop November 4 on Astralwerks.

I’m counting down the days till SomeKindaWonderful’s self titled debut album releases on June 24. The Cleveland alt pop band has had a hold of me ever since debut single Reverse lured me in earlier this year. Finally, after hearing some brilliant covers of classic hip hop songs, they’ve given us some new music off the forthcoming release. Police is a gritty, infectious anthem that continues that dark, grainy sound that we heard on Reverse. It’s a fantastic tune for those that dig both Imagine Dragons and The Neighbourhood, as it lies somewhere in between.

I’m nearly jumping out of my skin waiting impatiently for new music from Cleveland alt pop band SomeKindaWonderful after being utterly swept off my feet by their debut single Reverse earlier this year. It’s still one of my favorite alt pop songs of the year. SomeKindaWonderful’s debut album comes out on June 24. Though they haven’t given us much new music to hear off the album, they have given us a fantastic cover of 2Pac’s California Love. They continue to put a sultry, smokey, brooding spin on classic hip hop tracks with this brand new cover of Notorious B.I.G.’s Juicy. The alt take on the rap classic reminds me greatly of The Neighbourhood. It’s dark, yet smoldering hot. Now, I have this irresistible urge to listen to Reverse again, so let’s tune in below…

Another surprise cool cover that arose this week is a total genre redefining of classic 2Pac tune California Love by one of my favorite newcomers of late, Cleveland’s SomeKindaWonderful. That’s right. The guys who gave us the spectacular single Reverse, which is exploding and blowing up alt charts right now, covered the well loved hip hop tune. SomeKindaWonderful’s California Love is a gritty alt rock version that lies somewhere in between The Neighbourhood, AWOLNation, and Imagine Dragons. Thanks for the love, SomeKindaWonderful!

I think I’ve professed my love abundantly for SomeKindaWonderful’s debut single Reverse, but let me do so again as I share this brand new remix by none other than Passion Pit. It’s quite the pleasing blend of Passion Pit’s bubbly synthpop and the Cleveland band’s infectious alt pop. SomeKindaWonderful is releasing their debut album on June 24, and I can’t wait to hear what other amazing tunes they have in store for us. Reverse is tearing up some charts in the meantime. Don’t be surprised to hear a lot more of this song as we head into the summer months.
