Not only is this next one dedicated to a great cause, but its a stellar new offering from Belfast duo New Portals. They’ve released Sober such that all download proceeds via Bandcamp and iTunes would go to Macmillan Cancer Support’s Go Sober For October campaign. The lissome and enchanting pop aria pairs a 4/4 beat with mesmeric guitars and the duo’s trademark lush harmonies. It’s brisk yet piquant, frisky and uplifting. “I like to party when we’re sober,” they croon on the charming song. It’s true. Who needs anything else when you can dance to your heart’s content to this nimble and ebullient gem? Support the song and Go Sober For October by purchasing Sober from iTunes, here, or Bandcamp, here.

Johan has worked with the likes of Robin Hannibal (of Rhye), Vic Mensa, and How To Dress Well since the artist enraptured us with songs like ‘Danger_us’ and ‘high in the woods’. He returns today with a bittersweet aria named ‘sober’, taken from an upcoming debut EP entitled WILDS. The classically trained musician says of his dulcet pop single: “’Sober’ is as much about always being the last person still at the party as it is about growing up and not wanting to trade the intoxication of youth for the sobriety of adulthood and responsibility.” Though I’m usually not the last person at the party, I could probably take some cues from Johan and his slick melting, effervescent gleaming sonic suffusion, permeated with ethereal synth chops, nimble keys, and smooth yet fervent vocals. More news regarding Johan’s WILD EP will be arriving soon.

Could it be? Are we really only four days away from the release of Lorde’s new album Melodrama? The New Zealand pop star’s sophomore record will surely be one of the biggest pop releases of the year. Green Light is already one of the most massive singles of 2017, and everything else we’ve heard off of her collaborative album with writer/producer Jack Antonoff (Bleachers, fun.) have been amazing. As we count down the days, Ella has unveiled another song off Melodrama. Sober recalls her darker days with its hypnotic beats and a bewitching ambiance, except there’s a whole lot of regal horns on the track and a growing dance urgency as the song progresses that lifts us out of the shadows by its last exuberant notes. Pre-order Melodrama if you haven’t done so yet, here. Find out about Lorde’s Melodrama World Tour, here.

Dillistone is proving himself a brilliant rising production star out of London these days with the magnificent arias he’s been dishing out. It’s been but a few weeks since he teamed up with Italian chanteuse LILI N to romance us with misty beauty Rude, which he’s now followed up with Sober, a bittersweet lilting gem featuring bewitching vocals by British songbird Yellow. Sober boasts a crisp captivating bounce and irresistibly mellifluous charm. It walks a fine line between pop and club, making it so endearing of a jam that it’s already racked up over 229K streams on Soundcloud in but a week.

Wow, I’d hate to be the guy who inspired this Strong Asian Mothers’ song ‘Sober’. As you can derive from the lyrics it’s about a woman who tells a guy that she can’t stand him when she’s sober. Just released today, this is an effervescent burst of intriguing electro-pop, intertwining dark, brooding rhythm sections, with fleeting flashes of intricate synth work. The London trio will perform next on November 30th at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen.

Childish Gambino hit Sober gets a summer radiant, sparkling resplendent makeover, thanks to Sweden’s Oliver Nelson. The producer’s slick and sexy disco house remix shines with uplifting exuberance, a buoyant and punchy approach that drenches Donald Glover with extra sassy allure. “Now I’m so high”, he coos. We believe you, Donald, because we feel the exact same way after twirling all over the room to Oliver Nelson’s remix. Download the track for free, here.

Sober is a very good thing to be, though it’s some thing I’m often not when I go out on my adult beverage accompanied evening music adventures. Sober is also a phenomenal debut song from Swedish newcomer Bishat, who showcases some fantastically soulful vocals on the mellifluous electronic pop song. Bishat’s debut is rich yet raw, its opulent core brimming with honesty and vulnerability. She previously teased us with her talent on Some Things, a buzz garnering mashup cover of Lykke Li’s No Rest For The Wicked and Daniel Johnston’s Some Things Last A Long Time, which you can stream below. Darkly enchanting Lykke Li also seems to peek through on Sober alongside its Jessie Ware like catchy R&B pop qualities. Sober is available for purchase on iTunes.

It’s been a few quiet months now since VÉRITÉ’s sophomore EP, but with the announcement of some new UK tour dates comes a brand new track from the female solo project based in New York. VÉRITÉ states that she really loves Childish Gambino’s Sober, and wanted to re-imagine it and make it all her own. Sure enough, the songstress brings us a very unique interpretation of Sober on her latest, giving it an electronic pop makeover that closes out with dizzying, frenetic turmoil. Her buzzing, woozy cover of Sober seems to be a spellbinding literal representation of Donald Glover’s lyrics.

Have you ever wonder what it might sound like if Miami Horror covered Childish Gambino? Neither have I, but as it turns out, Donnie Glover’s music and Australian synthpop is a heavenly combination. Miami Horror enlist Melbourne producer and vocalist Queen Magic on the track, and he delivers some cushy vocals on the opulently jazzy, funky synthpop rendition of Sober. I wouldn’t mind at all if Miami Horror offered up more tunes like this one, it’s pure, resplendent bliss. Download the track for free, here. Miami Horror will be playing some gigs this November and December in South America and California, with a stop at Mezzanine in San Francisco on December 1st. I might be overdue for some live Miami Horror yet again!

Well, hey, here’s a crazy good cover of Childish Gambino’s Sober by France’s LeMarquis. The producer says that he’s been listening to Donald Glover’s music for awhile now, and Sober is one of his favorites. Well, me too! And I must say, I love what LeMarquis has done to the track. Along with its deep bass and bumping beat, there’s an immensely Caribou like style of production on the future house track, with its psychedelic experimental moments and his use of sonic space and volume. This is mmm mmm good, and I’m about to jump on my personal socials to drop this track. That’s how much I love it.
