Slow Sugar follows up on the New York City duo’s slow burning debut, Hypnotic Love, with more of their honeyed flowing pop on Pieces. They’re more ravishing than ever with elegant enchanting vocals and an atmospheric soundscape. This sophomore release is sultry smoldering like Lana Del Rey yet grandly vibrant like Tove Lo. The duo describes the song as being about clarity and resilience, a post breakup song that, instead of focusing on anger or resentment, captures the “moment where you realize you can be whole again after losing yourself in a relationship”. It’s a redemptive experience, and a message we so often forget when overwhelmed by the sorrow of loss. But we pick up the “pieces” and pull ourselves together, finding who we are again in the aftermath.

Hypnotic Love can’t be more fitting a title for Slow Sugar’s debut. The duo from NYC make their entrance with a captivating slow burner thoroughly graceful and sublime. Hypnotic Love’s tense moodiness rears its head in the tides of its atmospheric swelling production, while vocalist Danielle Harris’ soulful vocals add to the sheer passion of the simmering alt & electropop gem. Hypnotic Love is but a first taste from Slow Sugar’s forthcoming debut EP, due out later this summer.
