Everyone has “fake friends”, and if you claim to be an exception, you’re probably lying to yourself. Lucky for us, when we’re feeling down from misjudging who exactly the real ones are, we have songs like this jam to lift our spirits and remind us to focus our energy on those that “got your back”. The rest aren’t worth our time. Los Angeles based artist Shoffy melds hip hop with chill electronica and R&B soul on Fake Friends, which also features on point vocals by rising Los Angeles hip hop and electronica talent SIDIZEN KING. He literally spits fire as Shoffy soothes our fluttering hearts with his soulful voice on the spacious shimmering, pensive pacing ballad. Shoffy will be hitting the road for a slew of tour dates this fall, including a stop in San Francisco on October 19th at the Cafe du Nord. Download Fake Friends for free, here.

I was fortunate enough to finally meet Sidizen King briefly when I was in Austin for SXSW last month, but it was certainly a lot of misfortune that resulted in my having to miss him perform at the fest. We’ve long been enamored with the Los Angeles based artist’s dexterous ability to meld cutting edge electronic and dance sounds with forward thinking hip hop. Plenty of Sidizen King’s previous tracks have gone viral upon release, and now he’s back with another scintillating gem named Roll The Dice. It’s a flawless melting pot in which electro, hip hop, and funk become one. In other words, its another ace jam from this gifted artist. We know we’re never “rolling the dice” when we dive into a new Sidizen King track. They’re sure to be well woven, classy captivating feats. Roll The Dice is a free download, here.

It comes as no surprise that SIDIZEN KING continues to appear high up on the viral charts with each and every new tune he’s released. The astute Los Angeles based artist has pretty much invented his own brand of music by seamlessly executing a hybridization of electro and hip hop music. Plus, he’s proven himself a chameleon of sorts, too, with the diverse sounds he’s given us on his buzz worthy singles. Last Friday, SIDIZEN KING dropped his debut EP, a six track display of said talent. Masquerade is track number three off that record, and it’s a sumptuous jam indeed with Salt Lake City’s Jarrett Burns on guest duty. The slick vibrant electro hip hop found on the tune evokes Theophilus London with a side of Jai Paul’s R&B funk. Masquerade is brisk and stylish, nimble and dashing. SIDIZEN KING’s debut EP, Stuck In The Middle, is out now on iTunes.

Though we’ve been deuged with a tidal wave of The Chainsmokers remixes this year, and despite the fact that a few of them have featured new vocals rather than their original vox, we have heard nothing like this completely revamped cover of smash single Don’t Let Me Down by innovative hip hop artist SIDIZEN KING. On production duties is casualkimino who turns in a brilliant job melding swanky future bass with jazzy trap. Its on that luxuriant bed on which SIDIZEN KING fires off some rapid and smooth on point rapping. It all seems to come so effortlessly for this rising Los Angeles hip hop talent, whose fervent and intense skillfulness is a fine match for the intoxicating pitch shifted Daya hooks from the original. Simply put, Don’t Let Me Down has received its most brilliant re-imagination. Though true to the original, it’s also been made into a fresh and visionary new track all SIDIZEN KING and casualkimono’s own. Download the track for free, here.

I certainly did not wake up today expecting to encounter a collaboration between indie hip hop artist SiDizen King and indie rock band The Moth & The Flame. When I stumbled upon SiDizen King’s new song Disappear, featuring said quartet, my heart leaped with joy. I’ve enjoyed SiDizen King’s re-works and re-imaginations of indie songs in the past, when he added his own emceeing and some light production tweaks to stellar new music. It’s a much delightful surprise to see the Los Angeles based artist releasing a brand new original featuring gripping vocals by fellow Southern Californians The Moth & The Flame. SiDizen King’s passionate verses and The Moth & The Flame’s fervent singing intensify the song’s lovesick urgency. Disappear is a song that will never fade. It’s a tightly wound, heavily charged, and much innovative blend of alt and hip hop. Purchase Disappear from iTunes.

Going back to a mellow but hooking hip hop and electro, a combination I can’t seem to resist, with a beautiful remix of Kygo and Dillon Francis’ Coming Over by alt/indie hip hop act SiDizen King. James Hershey’s melting voice and the intermingling of Kygo’s tropical house & Dillon Francis’ compelling synthwork make a plush cushion for SiDizen King’s slick, gripping hip hop verses. SiDizen King tweaks the meaning of the original track with his clever story telling. Download his version of Coming Over for free, here.
