OFFICIAL VID: Shlohmo – Buried

February 13, 2015

As a fan of Shlohmo’s dark and ominous music, I was far from disappointed by the producer’s cinematic new track Buried. The unsettling track is now accompanied by a very disturbing and discomforting music video, one that’s twisted and tense. I’m a horror movie buff, so this is right up my alley. Combined, the song and the video is a spectacularly haunting and compelling experience. Shlohmo embarks on an extensive tour this spring throughout the US and Europe. As one who’s caught him live in the past, I recommend making it out, especially if you dig his witchy music. He’ll be dropping new album Dark Red on April 7th.

The always entrancing and hypnotizing Minnesota artist Spooky Black has shared a new track, and for some reason, he’s decided to release it under his real name, Corbin. Worn is produced by thestand4rd and the WeDidIt Collective, meaning a super team of Shlohmo, d33j, bobbyraps, and psymun. Crazy! Together, they create a woozy effect on the glitchy, sultry number, which eventually leads into some Kanye reminiscent hip hop moments. With his mature, emotive R&B vocals and the heady songs he’s given us, it always amazes me Corbin is only 16 years old. Perhaps with the use of his real name, he plans to shed some of the shadowy mystique he’s hitherto veiled himself in. He obviously commands the respect of a long list of brilliant producers.

Dope doesn’t begin to describe this new tune by Brooklyn artist OnCue that samples Banks’ fantastic Shlohmo produced song Brain. Closer heavily utilizes the haunting soundscape Shlohmo created for Banks, but the new number is produced by ARW. Obviously, OnCue is adept at utilizing samples and turning them into amazing new tracks, considering the last time we heard from him, he was sampling TV on the Radio’s Staring at the Sun to great result. There’s a very The Weeknd like vibe going on with this new track, minus the falsetto vocals. Revisit Staring At The Stars, produced by CJ Luzi, below from a few months ago.

Let’s go droopier and darker with this new Shlohmo remix, shall we? The Los Angeles producer creates a magical, ominous soundscape with his reworking of Berlin artist Perera Elsewhere’s Light Bulb. It’s a creeper… slow moving and oh so intoxicatingly heavy and thick. Oh, Shlohmo, you’re so good at what you do.

Completing this block of remixes with a brand new one by Australian producer Ta-Ku. His heavy, cacophonous, intoxicating remix of Banks’ recent single Brain is dark, ominous, and powerful. It’s quite the twist on Shlohmo’s production on the original. The more I listen to it, the more I find myself really digging the electrifying track which showcases some of Ta-ku’s signature, hip hop influenced percussion.

Today, Los Angeles electro R&B songstress BANKS dropped a visually stunning music video for her sexy, intoxicating song Brain, which is a tune I loved the moment I heard it. Plus, it’s produced by Shlohmo, and I’m such a huge fan of both of them. BANKS has already been the subject of endless buzz over the course of the past year, but this year’s going to be even more incredible for the rising musician. I can’t think of a single BANKS tune I haven’t adored endlessly, and seeing her live at Popscene late last year was such an incredible treat, especially after missing her openin support of The Weeknd earlier in the year. BANKS’ music and pristine vocals were even more spectacular live, filled with such infinite passion. Brain is a perfect example of how overwhelmingly and splendidly dramatic her music can be. Here’s to hoping for her first full length album!
