There’s obviously something in the water down in Australia and New Zealand that spawns incredible bands who have a firm handle on psychedelic rock. Perhaps we should call the phenomena “strange tides”, which just happens to be the latest song from a band named Shakes. These Kiwis make a grand entrance on my radar with their glossy shimmering song, an entrancing mixture of psych pop and bluesy alt rock that channels bits of Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, Yukon Blonde, and The Black Keys.  Strange Tides was in fact mastered by Brian Lucey, who has also worked with The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, and The Shins. Head over to Shakes’ Soundcloud and treat your ears to more of the band’s music, including their Tambourine Girls EP.

May start posting these ongoing “MOOSIQ MOSAICs” direct on IHM for those who haven’t had time to catch up on daily features and want to stream some rad new tunes via a handy Soundcloud playlist. Been doing this for awhile now, but likely many are still not aware (particularly if you don’t follow IHM on Twitter or Facebook). This one’s sonic gold, so many sizzling hot jams featured earlier this week on June 15th! Only songs that are streaming in full on Soundcloud are included in these playlists, snippets and previews are excluded.

You’re going to want to get up and jiggle that rear end to this next one, a vivacious pumping indie dance thriller named Sundome from Shakes. The Belgian band delivers a fiery bombastic fusion of electro-rock and electronic pop that bounces unabashed and bold, like a wild, dizzying cocktail made up of Digitalism and Phoenix. Bartender, I’ll have several rounds of this, thanks. In fact, keep it coming, all night long.
