Australia’s Seekae sure made a grand re-entrance last month with their long awaited new song, Turbine Blue, a requisite revisit now that the trio has unveiled a music video. The slow shuffling, dreamy misty combination of downtempo pop, dark synthwave, and atmospheric electronica is bittersweet lilting and dreamy nostalgic. I slow waltz my way around the room all over again to this pensive lulling, finespun drifting gem. Turbine Blue’s video follows seven figures along the famed canals in LA where movies like Terminator 2 and Grease were filmed. Seekae managed to shoot the video before the canals were officially closed and demolished, an aspect that adds an extra dimension of loss and wist to the experience. Turbine Blue is out now on Future Classic. Purchase from various outlets, here.

It’s been painfully long since we last heard new music from Australia’s Seekae, and the trio’s sudden re-emergence with a spectacular song named Turbine Blue is worthy cause for enthusiastic revelry. Seekae slow shuffles their way back into our hearts with the downtempo pop and atmospheric electronica gem. Turbine Blues’ cottony edges and misty haze make this quite the gentle suitor, a dreamy nostalgic display of finespun sonic art. Yet in the belly of this bittersweet slow waltz is are plenteous sharp shards dipped in lugubrious darkness. It’s as if Seekae has been listening to a lot of my favorite dark synthwave projects, such as Chromatics, or the Twin Peaks soundtrack. Purchase Seekae’s Turbine Blue from various outlets, here.

Australia’s Seekae dropped quite the magnificent video to accompany the trio’s haunting song The Stars Below. The song is off their album The Worry, out on Future Classic, which I enjoyed thoroughly earlier this year. The Stars Below is steeped in such hypnotic mystique and alluring, dark ambiance. The song was also quite the treat live when I caught Seekae’s set recently at Popscene in San Francisco.

Swedish trio DNKL is setting up to release their debut 4 track EP, Wolfhour, on November 17, and they’ve unveiled a stunning track named Warm Dark Night. It’s a thickly atmospheric and shadowy, yet overwhelmingly warm and blissful experience. In fact, now that I think about it, they’ve created a track that lives up to its name incredibly well. The whole song itself has the feels of a warm dark night. The song also comes with a more heady and ethereal remix by Australia’s Seekae. Guess who gets to catch Seekae live on Thursday, along with rising electropop chanteuse Zella Day?

Australia’s Seekae just dropped a new album, The Worry, on Future Classic, but woe is me, the album is not available yet in the US. Trust me, I’ve been checking for a release or some availability quite often. Well, at least they’ve offered up one of the tunes off the release for us to stream. The Stars Below is a hypnotic beauty simmering alluringly in shadows and steeped with mystique. It’s an intricate, brilliantly crafted downtempo electronic tune, and I’ll likely get to hear it live come next month at Popscene in San Francisco. I feel better now.

OFFICIAL VID: Seekae – Another

September 25, 2013

Seekae is another talented Australian act that recently signed to the great Future Classic label. I sure seem to love a lot of artists and bands on Future Classic! Their recent single Another is a gorgeous, slow burning electronic track filled with restrained, atmospheric production. Seekae also released a music video, filmed in Bolivia, for the tension filled track this week. The single will be on their third album out sometime next year. Word is that they’ve been working on it with Caribou collaborator David Wrench!
